Of course I would. Also, good kick up the bum to Catholics who feck like rabbits and so on. Feck religion that is willing to let people die of aids due to being kept in ignorance and under the notion that protection is immoral or some other codswallop.
A double kick up the bum when considering that there is a goodly measure of Catholics who are lesbian or gay, and couldn't get one another preggies no matter what! (Not that I have anything against either gay people or Catholics--I do have a thing against seeing people die needlessly, though.

Hmmm, although hypothetically you are correct - condoms would help prevent the spread of AIDS - From the information I've got about HIV/AIDS in Africa, it isn't, or wasn't caused by consenting adults getting loved up, but by raping and pillaging on a massive scale. So the Pope advising rapists to wear protection doesn't really come across as such a constructive message.
However, if I had the gift for saving lives by power of the spoken words I would use it (albeit on a case-by-case basis).

The Catholic Church's rules on sex are quite simple and well known. Sex is only permitted for married couples in order to make babies. Anything else is sinful. Promiscuous sex is sinful whether you use a condom or not.
If people followed this rule, there would be no aids. If people choose to have promiscuous sex without using condoms, don't blame the Pope. If the Pope said promiscuous sex was OK, many millions more people would die.
So here's some words to save many lives. If you follow the teaching of the church, don't engage in promiscuous sex.

The first question is more tricky than it looks. Would you betray Jesus to save a life, your own perhaps?. In history many Christians have felt Jesus was more important than their lives.
As to the second question, one answer is to ask: if people are not going to listen to the fundamental message, why dilute it even further?
At the end of the day, this is the modern world meeting the Old. The Pope stand by his beliefs, he is not some politician to bend to the public whim.
This is not a democracy this is religion.

Because God said go forth and multiply and religious people wont be able to admit they're wrong even when their nonsense as brought the world to the edge of oblivion (then they'll say its a judgement)
Catholics basically feel its a very unnatural way to curb population growth. Luckily, natural ones do exist. Starvation and disease.
It seems the pope prefers these.

Because he's already told them to stop having sex. If they won't obey him on that, what makes you think they will believe him about the condoms. Besides, it won't make any difference, Many african people believe that condoms are the work of the devil, and that you can prevent aids by raping a virgin regularly

Because religion is about faith. You have to trust in the Pope because he's the Pope. Logic doesn't apply to the Pope...what he believes is right is right. And your just so damn wrong no matter how logical you are.

Of course I would. It does not matter what you say, even if you don't mean what you say! Surely even a top politicion/figure should say something even if it cost them their job if it could save lifes!
