i know that might be a stupid question but i have no idea, if so is it a good gift?

Yes. Best choice would be a black or darkened case and a nylon strap.

Troop leaders down to squad level need to be able to coordinate times, and all of the troops can wear watches.

Yes as a soldier, we can wear watches in war zones but its a good idea to make sure its durable. I have destroyed a fair share of watches being in the Army so i wouldn't spend a great deal on it if you know that they will wear it everyday over there. When over there any gift and package is appreciated. Everyone loves mail.

Absolutely, and that's a great gift for any troop. I wore a Casio G-Shock for most of my time. Very durable and affordable.

yup great gift ...yes they can look at my yahoo 360 pic you will see my hubby in his trailer standing and i believe he has his watch on..so long as it doesn't have bling or anything shiny (thats not allowed)---under my blog his pic is there
