Yep, it's the mosque on mount Zion in Jerusalem. The destroying of the temple caused desolation and an abomination is in it's place today.

This already took place officially long ago, but will likely happen again, and it might take many forms.

Anyone who sins greviously enough to lose God's sanctifying grace becomes a similar abomination.

No. The book of Revelation makes it clear that this will take place in the newly constructed Temple in Jerusalem when the anti-christ erects a statue of himself and declares that he himself is god and should be worshiped as such.
