As an Atheist who apposes organized religion, I view this idea with some angst. The primary position of Atheism is that people have the right to do as they see fit, even if they want to worship a god. But at the exact same time, I really feel that I can do a whole lot of good if I convince people that they're not obligated to the moral code of conduct set down by dead men from the other side of the world. A good example of the pain that religion can cause is a friend of mine who struggled with his guilt over being gay. He hated god for making him that way, and for imposing such a harsh restriction. He would commit suicide at 19, over this. Keep in mind that suicide is the leading cause of death for gay teens.

The guilt that is handed down from these harsh and uncaring religions does more harm to society than good, and I want to combat that by being able to tell people that they're not obligated to serve that religion if it's only making you miserable. It's wrong for such things to be imposed on people, and they have a choice to walk away and live their lives according to their own rules. Generally, most people are far more moral than god is anyway.

I will ring your doorbell and run away!!!

Converting missions should be banned. People who are still searching for the right path for them and want to look into some religion can go to a church/mosque/whatever to find out more. Others should be left alone, especially in their homes. Going to people's homes and attempting to convert them is nothing else than harassment and some missionaries don't even take no for an answer and will even try to convert little kids without the parents' consent. Ban this nonsense and let people be free to seek knowledge as they wish without anyone trying to force it on them.

No, atheists shouldn't start a worldwide movement, because every person is free to chose his own religion. If someone wants to know things about a religion, he can search up on the Internet or read books. In my opinion science and technology demonstrate that there is no religion in this world (even satanism), and religion is only a thing to be live in and there is no paradise and no hell.

I think that the moral majority KNOW that the organized religions will fall someday... and its about time!!!! I agree with a few others though that say that then we would be falling into thier level... I agree we shouldn't go door to door that would be horrible!!!! I Do not believe in God... I believe in science. I believe that the truth about a book will set the world free unfortunatly the people that BLINDLY believe in thier bible are uneducated followers who do not think for themselves.. Funny also that they quote from the book....to none believers... as if it means diddly that they can read things out of a book and call it true...I saw a book that said if you close your eyes and fall from a building while spreading my arms I could fly... Goodness i wish THEY would read THAT one and believe it as much as they do thier fictional bible.... Good fiction by the way has some truth in it thats what makes it GOOD fiction. =)

We are already accused of pushing our beliefs onto people by just stating them in a public forum. If we tried to go out and deconvert people we would likely be the target of further hate crimes.

lol
I've suggested this before - let's go around on Christmas Day asking believers if they've ever considered accepting logic as their personal saviour. We could have a philosophical agnostic wing too, who can ask people if they've ever thought of letting doubt into their life...
Might not win too many "converts", but at least it would be a giggle.

I think Atheists should be more organized, for instance, something to counter movements like the "Moral Majority" would be a smart move. But to invade peoples privacy - then thats sinking to their level. The end doesn't justify the means. Leave em alone in their homes.

No, because that would make us just as bad as the fundies. I do not want to brainwash people into being atheists, they should choose to be.
