So, if you've seen all my other questions, you know I was a bit concerned about a previous root canal done in October. No throbbing, no senstivity really to cold or hot, but sensitivity to bite and when it's really cold, maybe a little discomfort, the gum is still a little swolen and sometimes it feels like the temporary crown is sticking out further than on other days. Anyhow, I am going on the 30th of January (sometime roun there). She's going to check me out. Is there a dentist or professional that can advise me of what to ask her to do? Thanks and Happy Holidays!

Thank you all for your information and help. I SOOO appreciate that. Not often someone lends a helping mind!!! Yes, I'll go in soon, probably after Christmas. I had popped in once so I didn't want to irretate her. I may seem like a worry wart but I just want to make sure my tooth is healing properly. The deal with it sticking out more than other times is this....at times, in the morning, when I first bite down, I feel the tooth sticking out and there are times when I bite down I don't feel it at all. Could be my bite.....but don't think so. Thanks again and Happy Holidays to all of you. God bless.

Root canal treatment is not a magical cure. It is simply the first step in the process that allows your body to heal. This does not happen overnight. Sometimes it takes longer than others to heal. The whole area can be inflamed, so that would explain why the neighboring tooth is sensitive to the "tap test," which we call "percussion." It occurs to me that you could stop tapping on your tooth as this is traumatic and it is prolonging the injury that is trying to heal.

It also occurs to me that the temporary crown might be high in one of your chewing or grinding movements. We call them "excursive" or "protrusive" movements. You can ask your dentist to check the bite in various movements to see if this is the case.

It also occurs to me that the edges ("margins") of the temporary crown might be a bit too far up the tooth. The crown could be removed and trimmed just a bit shorter if this is the case.

Either one of these problems would be consistant with sensitivity to extreme cold, because the ligament that supports the tooth would be inflamed and sensitive to cold.

I am concerned that you say the tooth seems to be sticking out more sometimes and I don't really have a good speculation for that via modem.

I think you could have the bite checked pretty soon. This would only take five minutes and your dentist could slip you in while someone else is getting numb.

If your bite is wrong with the temp crown, that's probably the cause of your discomfort. Even a little off on the bite will cause significant discomfort and pain in your tooth. Why wait? Go on in and tell them this is a problem and you can't wait until the 30th. of January when it will only get worse. If it's a tem crown, it won't take a minute for them to make the adjustment. Now go and enjoy your holiday!!!!

No sensitivity, No throbbing, But sensitivity to bite? I think the temporary crown is the culprit. Let your dentist, trim the area that feels strange to you. You can ask her to let her check your bite with an articulating paper, and then she will know what to do.

Also, I think, maybe your termporary crown is a bit loose.

Tell your dentist what you've written here and she will know what to do.

it seems that the temporary crown is not setting well, and it need some adjustment, i think you should go today to your dentist because waiting to the 30 is not good, it will worse the pain
