we're still VERY close and see each other on a frequent basis. we pretty much are taking a "break" from the "relationship" world. we still do basically everything regular couples do, but there's no "label" to the relationship. we're best friends. he went and bought me a whole bunch of stuff for christmas and i really don't have a whole lot of money to buy him a whole lot. we lived together, and moved into our own apts, so i'm pretty much broke now, living on my own..lol!

he's a guy who likes snowboarding, skateboarding, the style of those type of clothes. he likes computer gadgets and electronics. he is also a chef and loves to cook!! (and is good too!)

any suggestions for a christmas present that doesn't cost much but is something fairly new??

Is he an ex bf or still ur bf then but you both are on a time out...?
you should be clear about it cos if he is an ex; no, a call and a card is more than enough. You shouldnt be showering ur ex w gifts and visa versa. Its not healthy.
If u both r taking a time out, its different sories. How much is ur budget...?
Get him the new apple ipod shuffle; its only $138 and its very nice. Get him also a book or a box of chocolate (yes, men loves chocolate too, esp when it comes from their girl), or either cook for him or bring him out for a nice dinner with wine (you pay). You will melt his heart.

I don't think telling him in a Merry Christmas card, letter, e-mail, text or message is going to do any good. You either just look like you're trying to be nice, because it's the holidays (a lot of people send mass texts and messages during Christmas time) or that you are lonely because it's Christmas time. Send him a nice message, but follow up with it after the New Year and see how he's doing.

You should buy him a bunch of flowers, even though you're not a male. And give him some sweetmeats. That costs really little. If it cause lots in your place. Borrow someone's money. Like you other friends and family.

How about a new knife set. You can get a good one for around 70 dollars. All chefs love new knives!

What type of gifts do you buy your other "best friends" ? Follow that path with him also. You state "he" is an ex boyfriend.....let go of the emotional side of your thinking and buy him an "ex-mas" gift !!
