If you tried to crack open an unshelled peanut or sunflower seed, the shell might get caught between the small gaps between your teeth and hurt your gums/teeth. If this happened with a shelled nut or seed, then you can still get hurt if a sharp piece of the item impinges your teeth at its base.
In any case, it is better to check with your dentist if you have any gum disease or bad teeth.

You didn't mention if the peanuts and sunflower seeds are still in shells . Anything you bite that is hard can crack or break a tooth.
Peanuts and sunflower seeds can be bought in jars already shelled.

Weak teeth may crack. It's what is left in the mouth to rot and ferment (in your teeth), that causes problems. Brush good and know that peanuts and sunflower seeds are very good for you.

Sometimes, if you crack them open in your mouth, a small part of the shell can get between the gums and a tooth. Ouch!
