I had it bad for 5 years and nothing worked until I found a dermatologist who specializes in sensitive skin. The combination That works for me is using hot water in the shower and give your skin a deep cleansing 2-5 minutes of water hitting your face. Retin A works , not Retin A Micro and use Reversion wash I use Stridex on my stomach and back and the reversion medicaton. Go to reversion.com Exfoliate everyday by using vaseline The dead skins fall right off onto my fingers. They say don't exfoliate everyday but It cleared my skin because I had no more dead skin cells blocking my pores. Then I flush my pores with water. Water not only opens pore it clears them of excess oil. Use a wash cloth. Washing with hands only don't work

Acne is a hereditary and life long disease. There is only so much that can be done. It's not caused by diet which most people think. Accutane is a good, but powerful drug that does work, however the side effects can be difficult to deal with. Accutane causes moderate to severe joint pain (mostly in the knees). It's only temporary while you are taking the drug (about 4 months), and goes away after you stop. Talk to your doctor about your concerns. He can advise you the best.

Do some research on the internet and see what you can find. There maybe some herbs that will work for you also. Don't give up. Medical science has come a long ways. One day they will cure all diseases through stem cell research.

I have taken accutane and it worked like the other person said for about 4 years. Then slowly i began to get breakouts again and now I would say they are just as bad as when I started the accutane, and I'm 26. I didn't have any side effects from the medication except for the extremely dry skin but a friend of mine had joint pain and sensitivity to light. She couldn't continue the treatment b/c of her reaction to it. Also I do believe that what you eat matters. I would try accutane again if I was younger but I want to get pregnant soon so that is not an option for me. You can always stop taking it if you have adverse reactions to it.

I took accutane and did not have acne for three years. Not even a one little pimple. I used to have acne on my back, chest and shoulders. It was really embarassing. Just know that it is really expensive, very dangerous (YOU CANNOT GET PREGNANT ON THIS) and it will most likely require a second treatment/dosage down the road. I took this 10 years ago. But now, the last 4 years, I have had acne again. It is a decision only you can make with your doctor and everyone will have a different reaction to the medication. If you get pregnant on this you will have to have an abortion. It is really serious and you have to have a blood panel done monthly. Just be careful. I wish you good luck with your venture. Oh, I forgot to mention, you will have very bad chapped lips on this medication.

Acne can range in severity from a relatively small number of whiteheads, to a proliferation of cysts and nodules, which can be as physically painful as they are psychologically upsetting.

Severe cystic acne can be resistant to most treatments, and in fact cystic acne treatment can produce side effects that are as upsetting as the condition itself. For the many sufferers of this kind of acne however, refusing treatment is not an option, so here are some things to be aware of before undergoing your cystic acne treatment.

The causes of cystic acne are, like other types of the condition, associated with the over production of oil by glands in the skin. There remains no definitive cure for any of the acne types, and the ways in which available treatments work is not fully understood. Treating cystic acne can be difficult - severe cystic acne is usually resistant to topical treatments, and some of the medications that are commonly used, such as tetracycline. Cystic acne can be extremely upsetting for the sufferer, especially cystic acne in women, and though treating the condition can be harsh, it is usually, thankfully, well worth going through.

The most common tool in treating cystic acne is Accutane, or isotretinoin. Though this is a very effective treatment for severe cystic acne, it can bring unwanted side effects. Here are a few tips to help ease you through your treatment:

Accutane has an extremely drying effect, resulting in chapped lips and dry eyes. You might want to ensure that you carry an effective lip balm with you at all times during treatment, and contact lens wearers might find it more comfortable to return to wearing glasses for the duration of treatment.

Accutane can also cause muscle aches - gentle exercise can help, but ensure that you rest regularly also.

Accutane can have adverse effects on your cholesterol levels and lead to abnormal liver enzyme production. Accutane can also give rise to feelings of depression. Report any changes in your mood or your general health to your doctor straightaway.

Accutane can have extremely damaging effects on a developing fetus, therefore you MUST NOT become pregnant while taking this drug. Ensure that you use birth control at all time during your treatment.

Cystic acne treatment can undoubtedly give rise to certain side effects, but these should all subside once treatment is complete. And for the many patients who have completed treatment, the wonderful results have been well worth it.

Not sure why you refuse Accutane. If your desperate then you'll try it! Also, never scrub your face, always cleanse gently.

Accutane helps some people who have very severe acne. However, like you said, it is quite serious. I would discuss all of your options with your doctor(s).
