Maybe the horns have something to do with the use of the goat to represent evil. Maybe ancient artists just transfered the head of the goat onto the body of a person (with tail and cloven hoof).
It's interesting that there are horned demons in Asian mythology as well.

Satan is an angel. So he'd look like one. Dont ever remember hearing about an angel with horns or a red cape. Stuff like that is just created to give him a more threatening appearance.
But having not met Satan and never seeing an angel I couldnt really tell you for sure.
I'm pretty sure he would look as harmless as possible. He's trying to lure people to him so what would be the point of scary horns and s**t.

Just some food for thought......if Satan wore a red cape, had horns, looked scary, etc. We would be scared of him and would always resist him. Rather, he is not this scary looking dude, but someone that is very coersive, and uses pleasureable things to try and throw us off track. He is sly and disguises himself as good. Don't you think Adam and Eve would have been scared if he looked scary...lol

I have always thought that Satan would look like a very handsome man in an expensive suit... otherwise how could he be able to trick people? If you saw a red hairy guy with horns a tail and cloven hooves, he'd be a dead give-a-way... right?

This dates back to the middle ages when the devil was described like this in order to scare people into avoiding sin. Satan doesn't look anything like this. The Bible describes him as "appearing as an angel of light". He was originally the most beautiful and powerful angel in heaven but lost his position when he decided that he could run heaven better than God could. He still looks beautiful which is what makes serving him so attractive to so many.

The idea for the horns was stolen from Pagan gods like Pan and Cernnunos.

I believe the bible states that Satan was God's most beautiful angel. "Thou sealest up the sum" -- When God created intelligent life forms, He evidently had in mind an upper limit as to how much wisdom and beauty He would bestow on any particular one of his creatures. In Ezekiel 28.12 this limit is referred to as "the sum."
To a frog, God bestowed a small percentage of "the sum." To a dog, God bestowed a higher percentage of "the sum." And so forth.
On Satan, however, God bestowed the FULL LIMIT -- "the sum" of wisdom and beauty. Thus, Ezekiel 28.12 says that Satan "sealest up the sum, FULL of wisdom, and PERFECT in beauty."
In other words, Satan is the most intelligent and most beautiful creature that God ever made!

of course not dude.... satan was made by God and was really a favorite angel of God. He would have been a most beautiful angel.... one of Gods finest. there fore when satan betrayed God he was cast away from Gods presence. He still exists today and the bible states he is the prince of darkness. Satans main goal during his existance is to deceive people form knowing the saving grace of Jesus Christ. He is sly and manipulative... he sways the hearts of men towards evil. Saton is demonic and a fallen angel. The angels that went with Satan are now demons. They are real... Satan knows we are living in the end times and that his time is short- he will be permantently cast away by
God into hell. People who worship satan know he is real... but once you are exposed to his clutches it is very difficult to get away from him. Satan manipulates many institutions in life. He can dwell in the hearts of some men and control their lives... his evil is real and his main desire is the steering of people away from God that he may bring them to eternal damnation in hell aong with him. He does not care about his followers... he hates them because God made them and only wants them to suffer with him for eternity. If you are interested in learning more about the last days we are living in, look up end times and Jesus on the net. Remember, Satan has already lost the battle with God... and that he is not equal with God or Christ His Son, as Satan was made by God... he is powerless before God and will be sent into hell. Some major pastor's even Billy Graham, beleive we are living in the end days right now.... only a few years ahead... beware. Jesus died for your sin and is real.
