why are some toenails brown? i have a friend who's toenails grow brown and i've never underdstood it. i mean they are literally bown and she's tried everything, but nothing works. I hate seeing her feet in sandals in the summer, it makes me ill, but i don't want to say anything cause she's sensitive, but i wonder what causes this condition.

It could be an infection, and she needs to see a doctor.

It sounds like she has a fungal infection...but dont worry, it can easily be treated by your local podiatrist. When fungi develops on the toes, it begins to grow under the nail, basically attacking the nail itself. This can be caused by a number of things. Also, she could have constricted bloodflow to her toes. As wierd as it may sound, slow blood flow to the toes may cause nails to turn a brownish color. So, tell your friend to make an appointment, and in the mean time....avoid wearing colored socks, and tell her to message her feet!

It's a fungus! She needs to see an MD and start treating it. It will take a lot of effort to eliminate the fungal infection.

Maybe she has some kind of fungus that needs treated.If they just naturally grow that way she should paint them.

it can be brown if you use too much nail polish of if you had experience some accidents affecting your nails, that may cause
some hemorrhaging on the nail beds.
