Imagine a book with many unbelievable characters, including a talking snake, demons and flying angels with many references to magic, sorcery, mystic visions, reanimation and fortune telling.

How is it possible that rational adults can view these types of books as mythology or science fiction in all other realms of their lives except for religion?

What causes this temporary suspension of logic?

Christians are not rational adults. Far from it. They are irrational and incapable of logical reasoning and critical thinking. That's why they still believe in that stuff. The suspension of logic is not temporary. It's ingrained in them for the rest of their life. If they were smart enough to begin with, they wouldn't be Christians. They are told early on to not question anything and have faith. What kind of an education is that? It only encourages people to believe in crazy things that don't make sense. If the church told them Jesus was evil, they would believe that too because they have faith, and it's sad to say, that's the only thing they have.

Ren and Stimpy. There's a lot of logic and truth in those ridiculous stories. My point is that any story can represent the truths of life.

If the talking snake represents something and it acts in accordance with what it represents, then it is logical.

I, personally, don't know or care a whole lot about fables and religion.

Christian and all the religous people are dumb. ( the ones who pray for empty walls, 5 times pray looking at a empty sky and kissing the earth, bath the god figures in milk ...) all of them are dumb people. ...there is no god. The god is inside the dumb spoonfed religous people. Traditionally the religion has come up to today . . . .very near feature...the god's are just like the ghost stories when we heard when we were children.

Well the good thing about it is that the book you are talking about has managed to transform my life and there are so many supernatural happenings in my life and I am surely glad to have come across the Bible.
1Co 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
1Co 1:25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
1Co 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Hallelujah!!!

quite a few people with mental instability are "saved" by various churches. The funny part is the way the church adapts the story whenever necessary.....oh i am just a cell of gods spirit....no the ark wasnt strictly real...errrr guess we lost that one years ago......no room for tyranosaurus......god they are so scared of dying.....so scared of living.

The idea that a million people can't be wrong is pretty strong, I guess.

It is a combination of a pressure to conform to tradition and a need to believe. Faith is rooted in fear.

"anything you can think of is true, fishes make wishes on you."
It's more fun that way. like when you were a kid and thought santa was coming.
