I just honestly want to know...let me explain to you my little situation...
My fiance's mother is a devout Christain. She doesn't just go through the motions, she believes, truly believes, and she has more faith than I have ever seen in one person. But there is one thing...She has cancer, and I don't think she's expected to live that long. She's going through kemo and is losing all of her hair.
What I want to know is this. How can she love a God that has not shown her love? Or is it considered love that he is taking her away from her family? I'm just confused and I really want to know...Is there even a loving God? Because by the evidence I've seen, (throughout my life, mind you) I have seen no proof of such things.

Moiraes Fate: She has been a Christain most of her life, she didn't just happen to fall upon the religion out of benefits. She didn't convert simply out of selfishness.

I like your level-headed approach to this subject. Believers will say look around you, there is evidence of God's work, but I don't see it that way. I, too, have yet to have concrete evidence of the existence of a super being.

First off, please accept my best wishes for your fiance's mother and your family.
The question "Why does God allow suffering?" is a very old one. Priests, Ministers and Rabbis certainly do not have an answer. The most common response is that God has a plan and whatever God has in mind is for the best, even if we cannot understand the reason at this point.
I am sure that your future mother in law, as well as all religious people, would not agree with your statement that God has not shown her love.
I am not one to quote chapter and verse to answer all questions. Maybe you and/or your future mother in law might find some comfort in Ecclesiastes. I am not sure of the exact wording, but it says something to the effect of to every season there is a purpose under heaven. A time to sow, a time to reap, a time to laugh a time to cry.

Hello Dear
Just Read Verse 1corinthian 15:19 says "If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are the most pitiable people of all"
If Jesus cures say Praise The Lord! and If not also say Praise The Lord! This is GOD wants from you and all of us. Just believe Jesus as a child without question (I hope this is Possible for you) the rest JESUS will do, means what is impossible for you.

I'm sure that she doesn't look at her cancer as a punishment from God, rather that she looks at her life as a gift, her family, children, friends as blessings. How has God not shown her love? You may want to ask her to explain her belief to you, but do be careful not to attack. Show her the respect that you would want from anyone asking you the same question. Good luck.

Sickness is the result of man's fall. You are not promised a good life here on earth. It is when your fiance's mother reaches heaven when things become right and God's love is shown. She knows this, and I pray one day you will know this.

My mother died of cancer in 2004. Before she got sick, she was Atheist.
I think its a person being terrified of death and hoping that something, anything, will help them. Its also the church preying on the weak. What better time to convert someone when they're at their weakest point.
Either way, its weakness.

The only thing that's for sure in this world is that nobody's going to get out alive.
Ask your question directly to your fiance's mom and listen carefully to what she says.
If she's the woman of faith you say she is, you're in for a surprise.
