The first person who ever told me to do that was a doctor.
From what I remember, the reason it can be bad is if you have a solid wax plug, the hydrogen peroxide can work its way behind it, but then not have room to expand as it bubbles, and wind up damaging your ear drum.
Also it can make you totally dizzy if it's not the right temperature. Personal experience there. Darn near fell over and cracked my skull.
But that hasn't stopped me. I do hear that a few drops of olive oil, to soften the wax, is a better option. There's lots of info online if you do a search.

Like anything, too much is not good. I take a plastic syringe that s used for ears and put a few drops in. If you have a punctured ear drum, you have alot more to worry about then peroxide and you would have symptoms.

I know this Post is old, but do NOT do the ear candles. Most salons are discontinuing this. They do not work, tests show its a hoax. Google it. It's more dangerous any has no benefits. Hydrogen peroxide is fine for occasional use only.

It's fine, lots of times we cause wax to become impacted deep in the canal when we use q tips. D brox breaks up the wax and and hydrogen peroxide does the same thing. But with all things, you really should ask your doctor.

According to my doctor, yes it is a bad thing. As sold as a disinfectant, hydrogen peroxide is in a 3% solution with water. Putting this in your ears is pretty much like putting water in your ears. Despite its disinfectant properties, this can lead to irritation and infection. There is also the possibility of it getting caught near or behind your eardrum and fizzing loudly for a maddening long time.
My doctor said that if you think you have water in your ear, a couple drops of rubbing alcohol may help it to dry. It would evaporate quickly and cause the water to evaporate a bit faster with it and/or wick the water out a bit breaking the surface tension that traps water in place and let it drip out. This has worked for me.
Consult you own doctor before putting anything in your ear, for all i know my doctor is a quack or there could be something that makes this lousy advice for you.

It is not really bad, but not something you need to do on a regular basis. Ear wax is good for you it actually protects the ear drum. Use peroxide only if you have alot of wax build up. You will know if you have hearing loss. the best thing to do though is to see a Dr.

i use it sometimes when i have water stuck in my ear after surfing. sometimes ill mix in a little alcohol its OK to do this once or twice a week. and is not at all too bad for an adult. however i would not use this procedure on small children.
