Because of all the Knights

There were so many Knights

and the nights were so long, they were Dragon

One Black Knight said to the White Knight "I am stuck on your sword"...the White Knight replies "really?, I am glad you like it"

Because there were no great geniuses on the world during the Middle Ages, who would enlighten the humankind. Only fools. Like some christians.

I read some answers about power and electrivity. Then how about the ages before the Middle.
