I know absolutely nothing about sickle cell disease other than what I have read here.
I wonder if there are herbs that might help some. I wonder if natural blood thinners that aid a healthy heart like Co-enzyme10 might lubricate the arteries. Milk Thistle is very good for normal liver function. There are herbs that are very good for the immune system.
I think it would be better if I just gave you a good site. Please do not pass up researching your illness. If you can send a message to Doctor Weil do it. I understand he is a wonderful man and will help people. He comes highly recommended.
This is called "holistic" medicine. The more you understand about your illness the more successful you will be at living in harmony with it. If it is not curable then you must do just that.

So does a lot of other people. It must be a sickle cell anemia, where the red cells hemolyze when an otherwise asymptomatic child or adult gets an infection or viral disease.
The symptoms are long bone pain, and in children severe pain of hands and feet.
Take care to avoid infections, because those trigger the hemolytic attacks.Vaccines, prophylactic antibiotics, and some new research types of therapies are available.

People with sickle cell conditions make a different form of hemoglobin A called hemoglobin S (S stands for sickle). Red blood cells containing mostly hemoglobin S do not live as long as normal red blood cells (normally about 16 days). They also become stiff, distorted in shape and have difficulty passing through the body’s small blood vessels. When sickle-shaped cells block small blood vessels, less blood can reach that part of the body. Tissue that does not receive a normal blood flow eventually becomes damaged. This is what causes the complications of sickle cell disease.
Sickle cells are destroyed rapidly in the body of people with the disease causing anemia, jaundice and the formation of gallstones.
The sickle cells also block the flow of blood through vessels resulting in lung tissue damage (acute chest syndrome), pain episodes (arms, legs, chest and abdomen), stroke and priapism (painful prolonged erection). It also causes damage to most organs including the spleen, kidneys and liver. Damage to the spleen makes sickle cell disease patients, especially young children, easily overwhelmed by certain bacterial infections.

You probably will ahve to take an iron suppliment and be careful when you get cuts (because you won't be able to clot as well as a normal celled person) sometimes docs will prescribe a prescription to help you clot. eat plent of leafy greens to help with iron intake. you may suffer from fatigue. Make sure that you mention it before any medical treatment or procedure due to serious bleeding consequences.
