My son has a swollen lymph node in his neck. I took him to the doctor and he said," It's just a swollen lymph node." It has been there 2 months. Should I get another opinion?

Yes, please stay on top of that. It may well be nothing, there are many reasons why Lymph nodes swell. My doctor said the EXACT same thing..."Oh, that's just a lymph node" No one knew it was Lymphoma until they cut into it to find out. If it's nothing, fine. If it's something bad, you need to know right away. Please don't be afraid, there are GREAT treatments out there if it's something bad. But I know you can't help but fear for your son. I started out with the same Lymph node swollen. After seeing ENT and gastro, a surgeon was all set to remove my thyroid. He did a fine needle aspiration of that lymph node, and oh by the way, it was Lymphoma.

I have one lymph node that has been swollen for 8 years, and one that has been swollen for a year. I went to specialists both times (an oncologist and an Ear, Nose and Throat Dr.) to make sure they weren't out of the ordinary. Both times they were a result of infection (Mono, and a simple cold), and they just happen to stay swollen. They both recommended I come back if the lymph node got bigger or there were other changes. But I would definately recommend you see an ear, nose, and throat doctor or other specialist to make sure. And, if it gets bigger, definately go to a specialist.

Yes, you need to take him to an ENT. Swollen Lymph nodes can have all types of meanings. The underlying problem is usually an infection. Not to scare you, but swollen lymph's can also be cancer. Take your son to an ENT ASAP. It is probably just an infection that needs antibiotics. GOOD LUCK and you will be in every-ones prayers.
