mine. but after that the second best dog to own would be one that you have researched the breed and decided on what would be a good fit for your family. and then you have gone out to a shelter hopefully and found. the employees at the shelter can also direct you to the best fit for you. well most shelters. if you go to a breeder make sure they are not backyard breeders. which means they have registration papers. preferably AKC because there are hundreds of non legit kennel clubs out there now. and you can see where the pups were raised so far and see at least one of the parents. never buy a pup from a petstore.

My dog... but since you can't have him, any dog without a home is the best dog to own. Not only are they in DIRE need of love but they are just as smart and as loving if not more so with proper care and training than an expensive pure breed.

Pitt/Lab mix. They have the friendliness of a lab and the toughness of a pitt. Not much bothers this dog. Carolina dog mix is good too. They can be a bit shy, but they are so sweet and have a great sense of humor. Ours was a practical joker. Overall, I think mix breeds are good because you usually get the good parts of the different breeds and lose the bad things, like genetic disorders.

Depends on the lifestyle you lead. I live in the country, and the best dogs are the ones that just show up on your doorstep and adopt you. I've had several breeds of dogs, and all the ones we have bought, we have had to keep locked up because they would run away. Go to a shelter and spend time with several dogs, play with them, offer treats, walk them.

People are going to hate me for this answer, but, pitbulls are the best IMO. As long as you dont leave them out and ignore them all the time or train them to attack people, they are the most loving and playfull dogs there are.
Papillons are a very close second. They are very hyper and will run and run all day long. The only drawback is that they have a high pitched annoying bark and mine will not shut up sometimes.

Without a doubt, the answer is a chihuahua. They are the best dogs ever. So small, cute, smart, loving and loveable, faithful. I have owned many breeds and mixed breeds but chihuahuas are the best.

If you like small dogs, a toy poodle. They are 1-person dogs and will love you forever. If you like larger dogs, however, I would recommend a Belgian Malinois - they are extremely intelligent and loving, one of the reasons they are commonly used for police and cadaver work.
