I really want to get my tongue pierced but I'm not a fan of needles and pain, so do they offer a general anesthetic(freezing) so that it won't hurt? Or is that just for things like nose piercings and such.....?

I have my tongue pierced, and I did some research before I went through with it. It is rare for tongue piercings to cause complications. If you have a metal ring, then it can cause your teeth to chip, but I have a plastic one, and I haven't had any problems. Just make sure the person you get it from is experienced. If you do get any type of numbing medicine, when it wears off, it will generally hurt more than if you don't get any treatment. At least that's what I was told. It's not that bad, just a sharp pain, and some soreness the through the first week. Eating ice helps a lot...... Good luck!!

It depends on the shop you go to. Generally you don't get any anesthetic for tongue piercings, some people suggest holding ice in your mouth for 2-3 minutes dull the pain. Though everyone's pain tolerance is different, almost everyone agrees the discomfort is pretty mild and heals quickly. You can always call or stop in the shop and ask the piercer some questions before you have it done.

No offense, but Why would you want to do that to yourself?
As a dental assistant, I have learned in college that tongue piercing is dangerous and will damage nerves and other small parts of the tongue. Do you want to taste things as you get older?
Piercing the tongue also leads to expensive dental treatment if needed and can irritate and damage surrounding oral mucosa tissues (lips, lingual foramen, inside of the mouth).
Don't do it.

They give you numbing mouthwash. It doesn't work, but they try. If I can do it, you can. I'm a wuss about stuff like that.
