I want to share a opinion I have about Christians. 1st of all I am a Christian for over 20 years. I think that because there are so many Christians that it's impossible for us to have a positive image in the public eye. There are hundreds of thousands of "Christians" out there, if not millions. Not all really take the idea of Christianity seriously. Many simply have grown up in a Christian home & view their religion as part of their identity & then, react when they feel they are being attacked (like here on YA). Others, are sincere in their faith but have not really explored it enough to articulate their views to others in a mature way. There are other points, but I am running out of space. I want to take another tack. If you were to examine any other belief system (religious or not) that was adhered to by the same number of people, you would have the same result. That is, a lot of dumb people saying stupid things that do not accurately represent the truth of the belief system.

I dont know if this helps you any at all. but I am a christian, I dont go to church as regular as i should. and i do think that others can have a very strong effect on how you think or feel ( if you allow them to) religion is a tough one because I could read the same passage that you and 3 more people read. and we all could get somewhat different meaning or perception of it.. its very complicated. and a very touchy subject at that. I just believe that a person should kinda hang with their own perception and try not to think of others. I worked for several years in a public restaraunt and I then had the Image that church going people were the most rude of all FACT! and they would look down on you because that you were working on sunday.. well, fact is if they didnt bother stopping in on sunday there would be no business and employees would not have to work that day. so they too could go to church.. I guess what Im saying is take it the way that makes you feel comfortable and be strong , turn to the lord for answers and dont let yourself feel so intimidated by those who"seem to look at you with that Im better than you and I know more .. the world is strange people are stranger and its mind boggling to try and figure them all out. Be yourself in your own opinion and seek information from someone who you can rely on to send you in the right direction........ I know this is a lot of talk and not just so specifially in your direction but i hope Ive helped in some way to answer your questions.... happy holidays!

My view of Christians is based on actual interaction with Christians, not the "public view" of them. I know that when certain Christians talk about exterminating people of other faiths, or say that they "hope all fags, Jews, Muslims, and liberals die and burn in Hell," they aren't representing the majority of Christians (I'm talking to you, Pat Robertson).

However, based on my interaction with Christians--and the majority of people I know adhere to some form of the religion--I can say that they and I have a number of philosophical differences. Most Christians I know believe in a young Earth, 7-day creation, the flood, the Rapture, etc. Those things bother me a little, but not as much as things like stem-cell research, what should be taught in science class, when a fetus becomes a person...things like that. Things that are actually going to effect other people.

What bothers me most about Christianity right now is the radical political agenda that many religious organizations have. It's fine with me if people want to believe in fairy tales and such; it's none of my business, really. But when a group of people start trying to tell me what choices I can make, or that my child is going to be learning their religious views in school, or trying to stand in the way of important medical research, and when they have the money, resources, and desire to back it up with legislation, it becomes my business.

So, do I think they're stupid? Some of them are, of course. Ignorant? A great many are, and willfully so. Brainwashed? Very few; there's a difference between brainwashed and willingly self-deceived.

Actually I disagree with you. I have studied many other religions of the world and the religions of the "book" ie christianity and muslim and so on ...are based on fear and blood shed and if you don't believe what we do then we will kill you or condemn you or tell you you are wrong... csause all religions except for a few say they are right!!! no room for descussion.... The one religon I finds that does NOT have judgments is buddiasm.....Or taoistic views. These religions or "belief systems" teach to believe in the good in your self ... seek good in others... do good be good.... think before you speak.... accept others as they are... and they DO NOT condemn you for believing in other gods. Hmmm sounds to me like That is a GOOD BELIEF SYSTEM THERE... the organized religions need a reform or need to die away they do more harm than good ... look at the state of the world and what people are killing each other for every where... its not about oil... and we ALL know that!!! =)

There are 2.1 billion Christians. I think humans in general are ignorant and brainwashed in the present world, it sad because I used to think humans would amount to something in this world but I was wrong.
The human race are regressing now to the point that it's hard to find an intelligent human anymore and I don't think they'll ever have the chance to ever be intelligent again.
It's been hard watching the human race fall for the last 20 -25 years.

believe the second coming of jesus is an even bigger joke than the ressurection, you have to be a bit on the slow side to believe this , or if your a pretty smart person , then your just gullible, the bible is nonsense! its NOT historical fact , its a historical scam, govts have been using this "novel" as a control-device to decieve you and alter your perception of reality , and the reality is this, since the creation or evolution of man , strange omnipotent beings are up in the sky watching you and your every move, kinda sounds like a spiritual santa claus doesnt it? since the dawn of time there has been an alpha-male in every block of gender based lifeform on this planet, modern man has CREATED an omnipotent alpha-male so that you never question his authority no matter how bogus it sounds, and you idea-intolerant people get on my nerves, leave the bible where it belongs, on the bullshitters podium in church!

Stupidity doesn't last 1700 years. Brainwashing does. Especially when it starts at birth. Funny how Christians forget the lowball estimate of 250 million death that can be laid at the feet of Christianity over that same 1700 years Christianity is the single most murderous and destructive religion man has ever known. Who do you think the Muslim's learned their current behavior from. The Christian church. All religion is a cancer on mankind and the leading cause of death in human history. With Christianity leading the way!

Brainwashed and ignorant
Brainwashed because they believe in a religion that is false

Ignorant because they can't answer a simply question without quoting the bible I know what it says and I don't need to hear it just answer my question for God's sake

Sorry Christians didn't meant to be mean

Stupid? No. Brainwashed? Yes. They mostly are ignorant about a lot of things in life because their preachers tell them what is appropriate to read and listen to and what is not. They live in a sheltered narrow minded society.
