Besides taking him to the vet, how do I help him from home? It's not a really big deal, it's just he tore inbetween his toes(Do dogs have toes?) Right next to his claw. He keeps licking it and it's been bleeding for about 2-3 hours. He'll let me touch it so it can't be that painful but he barely puts pressure on it. I'm only 13, my parents are gone so i just need some advice that even me, a kid, could do. Help!

Wash it with soap and water. Dry it off really good and wrap it with a bandage or towel or something to keep him from licking it, and also to keep dirt and germs out.

why do you people have to be so mean to kids? save it for the adult idiots on here. ok kid, i'm a veterinary tech. you are going to eventually take your dog to the vet, but in the meantime don't use any chemical soap or whatever, water will flush out the area, and get an old towel and hold pressure on the paw until your parents get home. if you can call them now and tell them what happened and have them pick up some gauze and other bandage wrapping stuff on the way home, they should be able to figure out what to get. unless the bleeding won't stop take the dog to the vet in the morning, if the bleeding continues or gets worse your parents need to call the emergency clinic, your vet should have an emergency number listed on their machine. and many vets unlike human dr's may even leave their home number and will give you their advice tonight. but either way you are going to need to take the dog into the vet tomorrow at least. good luck to you kid, and for being resourceful enough to try and find some help.

don't put alcohol on it, ouch, jeez people i'm glad i'm not your dog.

hey honey they DO TO STITCH PAWS. it's difficult and depends on the wound. probably not for what this kid is talking about, but they do stitch paws. i'm pretty sure cause i spent 30 mins holding a paw for my dr to stitch up tue. pads, toes, tops, dewclaws etc, any part of the body that will heal can be stitched. maybe you need to find a better vet, or pay more attention

HI... sorry about your dog.. Yes they do have toes.. & the pads can sometimes get snagged or cut.. sounds like he might of snagged his nail.. it might be like if you got you nail snagged to a point to tear into the quick.. but since he'll let you touch him.. wash the area.. ( IS he a big dog, does he have long hair around the toes? ) keeping it cleaned, as some of the people have suggestioned of ways.. then if you have some kind of bandages or could tear up something to wrap around his paw so he won't keep licking it.. I have used a sock after the bandage.. but if its bad, I would let the vet take a look.. it might be a serious torn nail..

I would careful about what I put on it, he will keep licking it and you dont want to make him sick. Try to keep him calm, lookand see if it may need stitches. Try giving him a treat to keep his mind off of it. If is is bleeding very badly, contact and adult and ask them for help. He probably hung his toenail on something and caused a tear. When your parents get home, have them look at it and they can decided what to do from there. Keep him off the furniture and areas of carpet where he could leave blood. Good Luck and dont panic, he will be fine. Be careful about trying to apply pressure, if he is in pain, it may cause him to snap at or bite you. I strongly suggest for your safety and his, you keep him comfortable and in a controled area until your parents get home. If it is possible, and the bleeding is bad, you may try wrapping it with an old towel to help stop the bleeding.

PS If it was caused from a snagging toe nail or long toe nails, you should have your parents clip them so it doesnt happen again.

If it's been bleeding that long, he really should see a vet. If you have an elizabethan collar (a big plastic collar shaped like a cone that fixes to your dog's collar) put it on to prevent him from licking and biting the wound anymore. Wash it gently with a mild soap and water and put a bandage on it until your parents get home. Get him to a vet asap.

Let your dog clean its wound. Wait for your parrents to help. You can apply very light preasure with a clean bandage or sterile gause to help stop the bleeding. Call your vet, they can give great advice to help you untill your parrents are home. Also, from now on, do not tell people that you are home alone. Lotts of weirdos out there, k?

Look and see if you dad has a syptic stick in the medicine cabinet....It looks like a white crayon, and it's to help stop the bleeding when you nick yourself. Also "carefully" apply pressure to that area for a couple minutes.....but try the syptic stick first....And your dog really needs to see the vet, if it's been bleeding that long....Not only can he get dehydrated, but his paw can get infected.

Clean it with water. And some alcohol. not the drinking kind but the medical kind. Let him rest and not let him put pressure onto the leg. That's happened to my dog alot because she always finds a way to hurt herself. sad.. =[

I watched a TV show about miracle pets, who hurt its paw on glass. The owner did what he thought was best for the paw, but it got infected to the point the leg had to amputated. Take the dog to the vet just to be on the safe side.

use some peroxide to clean it out and hold a clean dry paper towel on it til it stops bleeding. Make sure your parents look at it when they get home.
