Lactose intolerance is not fatal (and it's "Occam's" Razor). If you are having gas and the runs after eating cheese, you are lactose intolerant. Pills like Lactaid will help, but only for awhile. Sooner or later you will need to start avoiding dairy if you don't want to wind up in the bathroom. It can't hurt you, but it can dehyrate you.

Also, you can continue eating yogurt. The live cultures in yogurt consume the lactose; also, it is a good thing to eat for the health of your digestive tract.

If you're having diarrhea and cramps after eating dairy products you have lactose intollerance. It can come and go. I would advise you to just purchase some Lactaid over the counter (there is even one that you take once a day) to ease the discomfort of the milk products as they are an important part of our diets. You doctor will probably just tell you the same thing. Try it; it can't hurt you a bit. Then if you're still worried, you can be "officially diagnosed" if you feel the need. Godloveya.

Personally, I dont see the point in a formal diagnosis. It's not like you'll get insurance coverage for it or anything. Just stay away from milk products if they get ur stomach upset and get your calcium froma suppliment. Maybe mention it when your at the MD for another reason. Get a two-fer

Just don't drink or eat things with dairy or cut down on it. Its not like being lactose and tolerant is gonna kill you just give you bad gas.

Here is what we do.
Drink milk - if there is trouble, avoid it.
Is there trouble when you dont drink it? If not, then avoidance of milk resolves the issue, there is your diagnosis, minus the expesive test.

Its called Ochams razor: the most likely explaination for the phenomena is the most likely explaination for the phenomena.

You'll be fine, but it may not be a bad idea to get tested to make sure you aren't seriously allergic to anything else.
