Yes this is very true and you first of all my friend have to be the smoker nor do it have to be a cig, weed or any consumption that someone may be consuming it could be fumes from car food many many thing have smoke properties which many aren't aware of!
so don't be so quick to think you are the cause of his condition and the doctor is surely correct!
also it could be from soap and shampoo hair sprays and many other things applied to the face hair and scalp which can effect the ear!

My son when he was little, had constant ear infections. Doctored even commented I was there every 2-3 weeks.

Found out the sitter smoked, she insisted she did not smoke around the kids, but only smoked outdoors. Changed sitters, this one did not smoke, all ear infections cleared up.

The smoke irritated his sinus etc, caused swelling in throat, closed up eustachian tubes..and ear infection.

Yes, I have heard this. My children's pediatrician gave me a flier about Ear Infections, and in it, it says that smoking is one of the causes, also excessive water in th ears(example; when you give them baths). So there are other reasons, in your situation its not a side effect of second hand smoking(since you don't smoke). If you are ever unsure of anything your doctor tells you, always get a second opinion. Hope This helps.

Second hand cigarette smoke weakens the immune system and leaves the body suseptible to many infections. I am suffering from pneumonia that my doctor says is caused by the second hand smoke from my hubby at this very minute. The smoke itself is not the "cause" but it does lower the body's ability to fight infections.
