I'm planning 2 buy a Canon A540. Will some 540 users tell me how is this camera? I read some reviews where it was claimed that 540 does awfully indoors as the flash is not powerful enough? Is it true? There is an option 4 xternal flash but I can't afford it.
Thanks in advance freinds.

I am A540 user for last 2 months. I have used it lot many times and at different locations. My impression is "It's a best buy" at this moment, considering features it offers and the cost.

Let me list my observations.
1. It gives outstanding performance in outdoor / nature / portrait / zoom photography without flash. (in sunlight)
2. If you use auto mode and flash ON, for indoor photography, it gives fantastic performance. (especially for close-up / portrait)
3. If you try a group photo, from a distance / zoom(optical) of @ 6-8 feet, it still gives a moderate performance. (with flash ON)
4. But, with auto mode and flash ON, you will not get adequate photo quality for a long shot. (more than 10 feet) Still you have a setting to increase flash intensity and select night mode for specific night photography. But then you consume battery life very fast.

In all, I can tell you to go for this camera, if you are amature in digital photography and still, sometimes, want to try few different settings.

Check out this review. Be sure to notice that it is several pages long.

From the conclusion:

"While shooting indoors, you'll notice that the flash doesn't quite have the power to illuminate large open rooms.

"I found that it does well when shooting close up portraits from about 4 or 5 feet away, or when shooting small group shots in mid sized rooms.

"A540 is compatible with the optional High-Power Flash HF-DC1, which can deliver proper illumination up to approximately 30 feet."
