I have always been a very spiritual person, and one could even say religious in my own way. I do believe in Jesus as a savior, and I think he can be a great outlet for people to use to find their spirituality, but I in no way believe him to be the only way. Many scare me with the hate and misunderstanding they bring upon Christ by using interpretations of scripture and teachings that were not meant to judge or cause fear in others. I believe in a loving God' that hold everyone on equal footing in finding his love.
I have been to a Methodist church a few times, and it has been the closest to a loving atmosphere. I am not claiming that anyone needs to choose a religion to find spirituality, but I am looking for another outlet to meet likeminded people and do more good for people and the community.
And suggestions?

Yes, I already volunteer a large part of my time. And have read the Bible more than once.

No shaolt, I believe you have your terms confused. Most conservatives take the bible, and the very nature, into their own hands. There is more than one way to interpret things, and by looking at the love of Christ, it is not hard to see who is 'going away' from anything, but thank you for your answer.

There are many ways to Jesus. Love is Jesus. Compassion to others, not combriddled compassion, but true compassion to other people, that is reaching out to Jesus.

I do not think I am the confused one Jewels. And as I have said, one does not need religion to find Christ. Thank you for your answer.

Sade, I have read the Bible many times, you are part of the problem if you are thinking Jesus, in any way, is saying all non Christians will go to Hell for not choosing your outlet of faith.

Each denomination has its elite that wants to cast stones. I don't think you need a liberal denomination though, because liberal implies something that is breaking away from the main source, but if you believe Christ himself was a loving source, you want to be a very conservative fundamentalist Christian. And there's a big difference between a conservative Christian and a conservative political figure - the two are not the same. Politics are irrelevant and temporal.

You first need to decide 'what' religion you are!
If you claim that Jesus' is our savior, yet deny that he's NOT the only way to heaven, then you are a very cunfused person.
What exactly 'is' your concept of Christ and salvation.
You see, the problem I see here is, you really can't make up your mind about who GOD (jesus) is.
Why do you even go to a methodist church if you don't believe the way they do, seems you're just looking for that 'feel good'
'treat me nice' atmosphere.
Methodists are Christians, and they believe that Christ 'IS' the
'ONLY' way to heaven (salvation).
So I suggest you look for a church that does 'NOT' believe this,
then you're where you should be..

There was a minister who came and spoke in one of my classes this year at college, and he was about the most liberal, tree-hugging hippie you'd ever want to meet. I believe his denomination was the "New Reformed Protestant Church of America" or something very similar to that. Another denomination that seems to be extremely accepting of all political views is the United Church of Christ. I am glad other people find the same dilemma I do in being spiritual and being political, and I am also glad that we do not have to choose between our faith and our sense of what is right and wrong in the world. The most important thing to God is that you love Him and love all His creation. Good luck in your spiritual journey!

Are you asking about other churches or about places to minster to others? FYI, the Methodist church is an offshoot of the Anglican. John Westley was an Anglican priest in England before he began his own church. You will find the Episcopal Church in the U.S. very open minded and very politically and socially active, especially in the Northern states.
We seek and serve God in all people.
Peace.

thats great you are looking to serve your fellow man because thats what jesus is all about.but you seem to have forgtten something in your quest to serve mankind or that church you belong to neglected to tell you that jesus said"i am the way, the truth and the life .no one comes to the father except through me".(john 14:6).i suggest you find a good church that meet your goals. but where you are now seems to be serving your purpose

I asked a similar question a few days back. Reading the responses might help you to figure out which denominations are in general a bit more liberal. Here's the link to the question:

Continue trying different Methodist churches; they do tend to be very open and accepting, but each individual church has its own "personality." You could also try non-denominational churches.
If it doesn't have to be a strictly Christian church, you could try the Unitarian Universalist Church, where all creeds are welcome. http://www.uua.org/
Also, check out Interfaith Ministries. http://www.imgh.org/

You might want to look into the Salvation Army. You might find it to your liking. Perhaps some Missionary Work. Pray and see where the Lord leads you.

The American Episcopalian church is about as liberal as they come. Why would you want your own spirituality when you can have Jesus es?
