11A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. 12I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. 13For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. 15But women[a] will be saved[b] through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.

is this one of those verses that we should just skip?

This is for everyone who answered and especially for the ones who want me to crawl back into a cave.

First, i did not author this verse. therefore the only preaching being done is being done by god himself. second, if you claim that this verse is cultural and is no longer relevant, then how can you know FOR CERTAIN that any other verse is not also cultural, and no longer relevant. this includes all of those lovely bits about homosexuals. Just realize that it was culturally unacceptable in those days, but now it's ok. This includes every verse telling you that you're going to be saved. It's saved based on elements in THEIR culture, so... it has no bearing on today.

No, but it's obvious that liberalism is creeping into a lot of churches these days. It doesn't make it right, though!

Shawn,

You should consider moving back into the cave you came from. It's just that type of misguided thinking that's been the source of most of the evil in the world. Men are no better than women just as whites are no better than blacks and etc. The writers of that specific verse were born and raised in an entirely different time and place and faced a very different reality than we do.

You can opt to remain in your darkened room and preach this drivel, or you can come out into the light and accept others as equals.

Well when I was christian, it was pointed out that one of the deconesses was a woman!!! In the book of Romans.

My sunday school teacher, explained that at that time most people were less educated and that in some of the places the women were even less educated than the men; i.e., he saw it as a cultural thing.

He was a pretty smart guy with Phd in Science from a conservative asian background. I think his view is reasonable tho.

Some people take the bible literally, to others, it is open to interpretation. Some people put more emphasis on the teachings of Jesus, who treated women as equals; others place more emphasis on the teachings of Paul, who made all these rules. To some people, the bible is a unitary whole, infallible and unchanging; to others, it is a collection of books that was assembled by humans, and has gone thru many changes.

As for me, with my literalist Asperger's mind, I had to reconcile all these differences by eschewing Christianity and simply living the best I can according to the teachings of Jesus. I don't consider myself a Christian, but I am a friend of Jesus.

As far as I'm concerned, Paul never met Jesus except once in a vision, and one cannot be certain that his vision was true. He then went on to teach a lot of things that Jesus never mentioned, and play down the things that Jesus emphasised. If you read in the acts of the apostles you'll see that therre was some conflict between Paul and those who actually knew Jesus.

The Pauline writings were meant to address problems of the growing and struggling Christian church at the time Paul lived. Indeed churches, liberal ones of course though we all go to hell with the rest of you, were some of the first organizations to recognize the equal role of women. My mother-in-law was among the first two female ordained ministers in our conference, my mother has long been church lay representative to the conference, I am taking a major in psychology and a minor in religious studies.

Women are the life blood to the church. MG

Shawn,

I strongly believe the feminist agenda has invaded our churches big time. I am far from the only one that has seen this. Church for Men talks about it a lot.

I am the founder and director of Shattered Men, an organization that addresses domestic abuse (and all abuse) from a Biblical viewpoint while focusing on men. I have had many men tell me that they have talked to their pastors about being abused only to be told they are liars. One police officer told me his pastor made his wife a Sunday School teacher to teach other women how to be Godly wives even after he told him about the abuse.

Another man was attending a well known mega church southwest of Chicago that had a large ministry for abused women. He asked if they helped abused men (he was being battered by his then wife) and to make a long story short, he was sent a letter from their lawyers telling him he would be arrested if he came on any of their church properties again. I have sent this church letters to ask them about abused men and I was told that they had hundreds of women asking for help but in several years, they only had one or two men ask. I know for a fact that several men asked for help within a very short time but were refused. I did suggest that perhaps they could put an announcement in their newsletter aimed at abused men and they would be surprised at how many would come out of the wood work. The problem is...men will not seek help from "women's shelters" any more then a man who was having a heart attack would stop at a women's hospital for help.

Many have been listening to Father's day messages vs. Mother's day messages at my request and almost all have come to the same verdict. In most churches today, on Mother's day, our moms are told that they walk on water and they have halos and wings. On Fathers day, men are told that all the evils of society are their fault. One pastor of a church in Dallas with a TV ministry told the men that if they were not living at home, to suck it in and go back home. I wrote to him and informed him that if they did, many of these men would be in jail for violating often bogus restraining orders.

Is the church feminized? YES!!!

How did it happen? Well the radical feminist have a very good propaganda machine Although domestic abuse is equal...as many men are abused as are women, many of our Christian ministries have accepted the lie that 95% are women. I have seen dozens of websites that have very misleading information on them, and they all demonize men. One website owner told me she knows her figures are correct because she gets them from..."the Center for Abused Women" I suggested that I know Big Macs are the best hamburger because Ronald McDonald told me they were.

Folks...if we do not stand up to these lies, if we do not join together to get equal justice for all, then our homes will be destroyed and remember...it could be you, your brother, your son, your cousin....

People will ignore whatever they don't like about the bible if it doesn't coincide with their own desires. Of course women shouldn't be feminist if they believe in the bible. Women are supposed to make babies and listen to their husbands. That is what God intended for women to do. Not to have their own mind and do as they want.
