Hi there, a week ago I bought tray whitening system from my dentist and I have really sensitive gums. tonight, I brushed my teeth before putting on the tray and noticed that it was really painful. I must of ripped some parts of my gum on top of my tooth while brushing. so therefore, the whitening gel was causing the burning on the gum. I've always had weak gums... any suggestion as to what to do about this if it occurs in the future? Now, the burning sensation has calmed down and looks like the openings of the gum is now sealed with the whitening gel.. any threat to gum disease? thank you!

IF SOME OF THE WHITENING GEL CAME OUT OF THE TRAY AND GO ON THE GUMS, IT'S VERY POSSIBLE THE GUMS WERE INADVERTENTLY BLEACHED WHEN THE GEL WAS NEVER MEANT TO COAT THE GUMS.
WITH SELF-ADMINISTERED GEL, TOO LITTLE IS BETTER THAN TOO MUCH.

My experience with a dentist-provided whitening system is that it is very painful on both teeth and gums. When I contacted my dentist, I was told that it is painful for those with "sensitive" mouths and the solution? Tylenol and reduce frequency of usage. If you decide to trash the plan and go for a system like Zoom, be CERTAIN to follow directions and drink no coffees or sodas for 3 days and don't smoke. I had a soda the first day and the whitening was lost. Good luck!
