this is what you do:

Get her excited about something girls a little older than her can do. Once you have her absolutely crazy for it, explain that it something five year olds do and that five year olds go on the potty.

For my son as he approached three I kept giving him "warnings" by saying:

"Youre gonna be three soon. You know three year olds dont wear diapers. They go on the toilet."

At first he was concerned but when his third birthday came around , he refused to wear a diaper anymore ( except at bedtime )

Just slowly convince her that she is approaching the time when she must go on the toilet.

If she was too traumatized by falling in, then youre gonna have to set her there and make her stay there and let her cry.

Most kids are potty trained by 3 or befor. Hopefully she isnt wearing pull ups at her age. Be consistent, dont give in to her tantrums, make a sticker chart and at the end of the day she gets a piece of candy for doing good. or at the end of the week she gets a special treat or something. Everyone she is with needs to help.

DO not let these ******* make you feel bad. My daughter is 3 and a half and is simply a late bloomer for potty training. She is also VERY tall, and speaks very well, so people always think she's about 5, and give me nasty looks when they see a diaper poking out.

The worst thing to do is be mean, as the (obvious childless) girl suggested. I refuse to make my child feel guilty for something that IS a big change, and kudos to you for not hurting your child more by shaming her, or showing that you are "bigger and stronger" (bully tactic, much?)

I know it's frustrating-BELIEVE ME. But she WILL eventually do this, and you are a good mom for caring so much. Anyone who tries to tell you differently or BLAME you is WRONG.

I'm sorry I don;t have any advice-I just had to speak up when I saw the nastiness that was already brewing against you.

Deffinatly get her a child potty and show her that she wont fall in or get hurt. She has to overcome the fear first or you'll never get her potty trained.
My aunt had the exact same problem with my cousin and she simply left the toilet seat up and fell in the potty herself (just as an example) and she started laughing and then my cousin did too. He learned that it wasnt so traumatic to fall in there.

It was a nightmare trying to get my little one to go as well!
I finally said NO MORE diapers except at night, and if you go in your panties your cleaning it up! She had very few accidents, and I obviously wouldn't have made her clean it up, but the thought of it made her use the potty instead of her pants!
She would ask for a diaper a LOT for the first while, and I would just tell her no!
Good luck to you, it's hard!

She's 4 and you still have this problem? Sounds like there's more going on than a tumble off the toilet. If she was very young she should have forgotten that within a day or 2. Try using one of the small portable toilets that are designed for potty training, she'll have both feet on the floor that way. But I'm still hung up on the fall off the toilet, I hope mum isn't making that situation worse by unconsciously fueling the memory.

I had a child that wasn't potty training with bowel movements. I told him that he needed to pick a time to use the toilet...in the meantime he could ask for a diaper at the time. He choose a time, and did it. No pressures.

People are so mean on here sometimes. I agree, she needs to be trained. Get her a little potty, or one of the rings that fit on the seat. Show and tell her that she will not fall in and make sure you don't do things like flush it while she is sitting on it. Go back the the basics, sticker chart, pretty panties, bribes. You guys can do this, oh, and make sure she sees and knows that all her little friends use the potty now and emphasize what a big girl she is now. you could even throw her a big girl party!

#1 get a child size toilet,
# 2 Use M&M's or Smarties as a reward after each time she goes
#3 Buy her the silky type of panties, They are for "big girls" and she will be very uncomfortable if she wets them.
#4 Run the tap so she hears the sound of water while she is on the "potty".

Thats all the tips I know, Good Luck!! (yikes, I feel for you)
