what was heroic before 1938. Or what things did he do which could entitle him to be called a hero. Yes the way he put nationalist feelings in the Germans as they were humiliated during world war I. I believe that at that particular time the Germans were full of pride and self respect. he knew at that time what exactly what Germany needed and that is why the common people of Germany were with him. I have seen his original movies and though I am Indian and do not understand the German language yet I love his speeches, the way he used to speak. He en cashed first on communism which was spreading fast in Europe. Britain turned a nelson's eye when he invaded Poland. The Europeans wanted a free battle against communism but as soon as he turned his guns on England all hell broke. England was on the verge of surrendering. there are many Indians who liked him mostly, because he was against England. Of course what he did to Jewish community is unpardonable. I keep wondering from where so much hatred comes from to anybody. Just for a few Jews he generalized all Jews into one. In India there is one community which is a money lending community known Marwaris which was hated as they have been taking advantage of the common poor people. there were/ are money lenders in rural India who give loans to farmers at an exorbitant interest rate which is most of the time not possible to repay. The land kept as guarantee is taken away on default. This is one of the thing which might have happened in germany. The attack on USSR was the most foolish thing presumed, but i think he did that to change the european mindset to think that he is fighting against communism. When you loose a war you are always wrong. Britain and USA got away of all their wrong doing by blaming everything on the germans. Yes i think he would have become a national hero. The most important thing he did which any other leader could not is fill enthusiasm, confidence, pride and self respect in the german population which were living in humilation for the past 20 years (since 1918). Again what he did to Jews is unpardonable and this one thing destroys all the good things he had. He becomes ZERO ( what biblioman says is what i have not said

Yes, and he would have been even a greater hero had he died in the last days of October 1941, that is: when he was at his height; annexing Austria, Czechoslovakia, Poland and occupying Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Denmark, Norway, Yugoslavia, Greece, and putting most of the rest of Eastern and Central Europe under his alliance...and having signed the Pact of Steel with Italy's Mussolini and the alliance with Japan. At that time he has already overrun the European USSR and was at the suburbs of Moscow and Leningrad. He had also sent Rommel with his Afrika Korps in North Africa, while Britain was severely suffocating fro the U-Boat naval blockade and was suffering headstrokes from the bombers of the Luftewaffe and the V-1 missiles!

Had Hitler died then and another successor had lead Germany throughout the rest of the war, Hitler would have been worshipped; not just by the Germans...but by billions of non-Germans worldwide!

At the time of the great depression in the 30s, Americans were looking for races to blame for the giant stock market crash. The two unfortunate races happened to be African Americans, many of whom were dreadfully lynched, and Jews, who were discriminated against. Against the latter, all Christian Caucasians were rounded up and began forming Nazi groups. In fact, one Catholic extremist went as far to say that the Jewish bible stated that Jews captured little white Christian girls and drank their blood. I'm not pulling your leg or anything, it was on PBS for a series on the Great Depression. However, I believe that by the time you stated, Hitler's popularity in the USA had diminished, so maybe to the Germans, but not the Americans.
