The Dr said to pour baby oil in her ear and leave it there! That sounds weird to me. But she says it's plugged and she's always asking "What?" after I say something. I'm thinking she probably can't hear very well. What's an easy painless way to get the wax out?

I used to have to do this for my son. We used warm, not hot baby oil only at night. I waited for him to sleep and then I put a little in the ears and let him sleep. In a couple of nights of this he was fine.
Now his ears get itchy and we use the ear candles. I only use 1/2 of them and you can't believe the stuff we get out.
I also have used alcohol and water mix to help get rid of water from swimming. Just put it in. The alcohol dries the plug and the water flushes it out.
I've also used sweet oil, also warm, it works great also. You can get this at any pharmacy.

How old is your child? Does she have a cold or congestion? I assume you did not see an ear specialist. If the doctor thinks she has hardened ear wax, then maybe baby oil will help soften it up. Do not use a Q-tip or any other item to try and get the wax out. You could end up pushing it further back, or even damaging her ear drum.

But if she has a 'stopped up' ear due to cold, then the oil is not going to make a difference. Try some decongestants. You know the feeling when your ear 'pops'? That is the eustachian tube opening briefly. It runs from the back of your throat up to each ear, in the middle ear cavity. When you have a cold or congestion, the tissue around the base of the E tube is swollen and it cannot open and close properly, thus causing the stopped up feeling.

I had a child with ears that did not drain, but walled up in wax. The doc pulled the "plugs out" and recommended to 'ear douche' the next time. The syringe is pointed up - not toward the drum and the warm sterile water washes the wax out.

They sell these bulbs at the pharmacy for this. You squeeeze is underwater and it will fill up with water and then you put it in obstructed ear and push on the bulb. Then turn her head over so the water may run out. This usually works, but it may take more than one or two trys. (this is what I do and I am 34 so a babies ear would be more sensitive).

Take the doctor's advise I guess..
