I mean like, are these foods or the orchards where they are grown, are they tested regularly?

I am currently a pastry chef and Associate Bakery Team Leader at one of the worlds largest natural and organic food market stores. I understand your question.

From within the company I know this:

In order to become certified organic, farmers usually go through a series of tests on their products or the products that they use to produce their products. Typically, if you are talking about fruits and vegetables... it is a 7 year process of true organic farming with out the use of pesticides, herbicides, growth hormones or fertilizers on the crops which are tested by third party companies.

People are very serious about organic farming [as it was done many many years ago before the invention of all these silly chemicals and genetically modified ingredients that we use nowadays in conventional products]

If you are buying organic, trust that it is organic as the makers and farmers of organic products take true pride in what they produce. Organic is typically more expensive to buy, but I honestly believe that you only get what you pay for!

I also know that legally organic and conventional produce need to be merchandised separate from one another from within the supermarket [and even in delivery]. There are very strict procedures that are followed from within the supermarket in regards to the handling of organic produce, otherwise if not, there are serious potential fines that could be faced that any business owner would not be able to afford.

I hope this helps.

Certified Organic USDA means that the food was produced using a set of guidelines that mandate that only natural or no chemicals are used for production or processing of the product. There are certain restrictions on how animals are treated/handled housed and medical treatment. Restrictions on drug usage and so on. Keep in mind that there are also certification agencies that also set guides for organic standards. If you want to spend the time to do some informative reading regarding the issue google organic certification agencies as well as take notes on brands websites. Whole Foods is basing there reputation on good trust and viable products, dubious practices would break this trust and the end of there business. I think you are in the right direction when you take the time to investigate what you and your family are eating and where it comes from, how it was produced, procured, handled and what it contains. Some people and groups will say there is or isn't a difference in nutritional value between organic and non-organic products but there is major differences about how they are produced. Another note organic foods do not contain added hormones nor are they produced with genetic modification or GMO's.

I try to eat a lot of Organic foods, when i can afford them. They are alot better for you. God only knows what the government and who ever else puts in our food! Oh, how i could go on and on.....
But anyway, i have a friend (who is a male) by the way, said that he heard that some organic growing owners, let their hired help r e l i e v e their selves in the soil..............sometimes. Now, this friend of mine, being male, may have just been letting his male ego show a bit, and probably showing a bit of his smart *** as well, but SURELY with all of our strict regulations and everything, this type of thing would be caught and stopped immediately. I have always wondered how to know Organic food is really Organic? I am going to check on line for information, if i find out anything, i will post it. Hope someone can help us out on this.
