Well, in most cases I'd say yes. If the person didn't know your beliefs and was sincerely trying to wish you a happy holiday season, I say that punching them is horribly rude.

However, if they did know your beliefs, and still said it anyway... perhaps in a taunting or sarcastic nature, then I say you had a right to be offended and angry. Punching someone may still be extreme, but anger is understandable.

Maybe you should try to be more tolerant of those with other beliefs, though I know that can be frustrating at times. It might make your life a lot easier in the long run, though.

Just my two cents.

Why would it be? Isn't that what every1 does? Personally I would rather punch you in the face as opposed to wishing you a Merry Christmas.

Of course not! :-)

But it is...

1) A felony.
2) An invitation to be shot, beaten, or stabbed, and the "merry christmas" well-wisher would get off scot-free, as self-defense.
3) An exceptional disregard to human life.
4) A sorry lack of maturity.
5) A crude display of your pitiable lack of self-control.

But definately not rude! :-)

I'm also atheist, & I still feel it's very rude and you should be charged w/assault for something like that. Blame it on being an atheist who was raised by a Southern Baptist grandmother. Get some manners.

it DOES get tiring. but they, in their minds, are wishing you something nice and wonderful for them, like wishing you a great day or a happy weekend or a fabulous marriage. so try to see their intent, they're cheery and want to spread it. it's just two words put together, kind of like "bob stick" or "speaker jacket." if they don't mean anything special to you, don't let it get to you!

(p.s. i do not wish people merry christmas or believe in any religion, so i'm not trying to convert you or something)

This is the first time that I have been tempted to call someone retarded, but I won't, because I think you are just trying to get a rise from people with a supposedly controversial question.

So great is the control you let people have over you, that you would risk prison or jail just because someone meant you well.

Merry Christmas.
