Osiris and Isis.....just another resurrection myth, ages before the whole Christ thing happened. Joseph Campbell's books should be taught in schools.

There are "pagan" religions that did have much of the same symbolism found in christian theology. (the fish symbol, death and resurrection, the donkey, the cross, etc). if you look at the myth of Osiris and Isis or the Dionysus story you are likely to find a lot of striking similarities between those and the Jesus story (virgin birth etc etc). There is a theory that says that the Jesus story was created to reach out to the Hebrews in the area, because this myth is kind of like an allegory, an initiation school into higher, mystical learning. So they tried to tie it in to the Torah, which is why there are a lot of contradictions between the old and new testament.
This is all just one idea.
There is a very interesting book called The Jesus Mysteries that has a lot of CITATIONS (for those who say that all of this is made up...i noticed because citations bother me when i'm trying to read) about these things.

I have not read any of this Campbell's stuff but the bible was written by humans.
Humans write about things they know about. If at the time that part of the bible was written and in that time it was common then one would think this is where the person got the idea to write what is now that part of the bible.
The bible it is theorized as to not have been written at the same times. This of course is logical. It is small stories put together into one book. Of course not in English so if one wants the true meaning of the bible one needs to learn the languages in which it was written in.
I feel the translations that have been done on the bible takes so much away from the original, as with all books that have been rewritten in another language. We have some Russian books (as well as other languages of books) translated into English, however the author of one is also noted as being there supervising the translation. This can not be done with the bible of course.
These are my thoughts on this subject....

Yes. As culture and society spread, so too do the religions mix and mingle.
Although there are people trying their hardest to discredit you. Have a chuckle.

Hi my friend.
The virgin birth and the resurrection were not new to Jesus. In fact there were several; Deity's with that same story before Jesus. Man, don't you think that they could have at least made up something original?
