not usually its a pain med. it also has a blood thining effect. usually ice is used to reduce swelling

Yes it is but sometimes doctors speak in "doctor" and say things like "Anti inflammatory" which means it reduces swelling. Ice, (for no more then twenty minutes at a time) and raising above the heart will help too if it is a leg or an arm. Don't put the ice directly on the skin, cover the area with a towel first. Yes, Ibuprofen does reduce swelling, which tylenol does not. Ice also reduces swelling. Do not use it for more than 10 minutes at a time.

It is an anti-inflammatory drug found in tradenames such as Motrin, Aleve. It is used to reduce swelling, inflamation which in turn can reduce fever, aches and minor pain depending on dosage. OTC (over the counter) for an adult is 200 mg. Prescribed can go from 200-800 mg per pill. Can cause stomach irritation, best to take with food or at least milk.
