My psychiatric consultations are always focuses on small stuff... I want it to be focused on big issues. Any thoughts about my problem. Thanks. I am depressed and I have ADD.

I have talked to her. But we still focus on little things. I just want to make my visits more efficient. What is the best way to have an efficient visit???

Tell your doc. He/she cannot read your mind. Say something like I need to ask you something. then go from there

Not all psychiatrists do psychotherapy. Their main purpose is to deal with the symptoms that can be managed with medication. So, if you're dealing with major life issues, and he just talks about the symptoms of depression and ADD, that's his job. If you need psychotherapy, ask him for a referral to a therapist.

You could start the session out by saying that you have something in mind that you would like to talk about. Do you take medication for your depression or ADHD? Did you know that ADHD medication can be a trigger for depression?

They are probably trying to figure out what brought on the big issues so when you get to them you know why they happened and can deal with them.
What are the big issues?

Hi,
You have to be "specific" and explain to your psychiatrist that you have immediate concerns which are: 1., 2., etc. be firm and let him/her know that you do need to deal with those issues, They do tend to dawdle with the Little stuff and it can be annoying, get to the point and just be polite yet firm and say, "I would like to talk about......." you have that right, the ball is in your court.

Psychiatrists are not that much into counseling from my experience. They will just ask you how you are and then prescribe or refill meds. You should see a psychologist for in
depth psychotherapy.
