if you want something that's going to last for a long time then your best bet is to go with cast iron. if you're going to be hiking/backpacking you're better off with something light weight like aluminum.
it also depends how you're going to be cooking the food and what you're going to be cooking. in all honestly the best way i've found is just to use aluminum foil. you just wrap the food up inside of it and then throw it right into the fire. (granted it probably won't work to well if you're trying to make eggs, or something with liquids but it works great when you're cooking meats and veggies)

well it depends on what kind of camping u mean.in a car camping that you can have wood fire then cast iron workes great cos the weight is not a consideration. but in a backpacking camp you can use stainless steel or alu or titanium. steel equipments are durable, easy to wash, and high temperature resistant so you can use then in low wood fire.(only low fire) aluminium is lighter but not as durable as steel .alu has the best heat conduction so you can cook on pack stoves and save fuel.titanium is slightly lighter than aluminium but more durable(like a combined steel and aluminium) and expensive. but to cook on stove i`de recommend aluminium pots and billies when you are carring your kitchen in backpack.
be careful and choose well when you wanna buy them bcoz you wanna buy it to use it not just to buy it right......................have fun

Titanium - rustproof, extremely lightweight and durable. Very expensive.
I'd fall back on anodized aluminum cookware from there.

Over-sized cast iron skillet. You can't beat the heat when you put on the meat.
