What is the best way to get big volumized hair? Do curlers work the best or a large barrel curling iron? Is there any way to maximize volume at the roots (effectively... I know everyone says get a volumizing spray but that isn't what i mean). My hair is naturally wavy and I need a style to give it more OOMPH! Here is an example of what I mean: http://m90.org/gallery/paparazzi/Jessica_Simpson_in%20leather%20vest.jpg

Hi there,

You can use a number of tricks to get voluminous hair, but unfortunately to get it to last is the real problem. You can start by washing your hair with a voluminizing or thickening shampoo and conditioner (on Sephora.com Ojon and Frederik Fekkai have some good ones), then towel dry hair. Put voluminizing mousse or spray into hair and blowdry hair upside down. Once hair is dry you can use hot rollers (just be sure to not comb hair or you will lose the volume. Also use a large-barrel curling iron to add more volume. If you're wearing your hair down, finish with a light mist of hairspray.

Backcombing is also effective (those 60s beehive dos are very voluminous), so you might want to try that.

Keep in mind though that Jessica has a ton of stylists running after her after each take so of course her hair will look perfect.

Some people's hair just doesn't hold volume... mine is fairly thick but really smooth and I can't get the whole voluminous look easily. But try the tips above and I think your hair will look a lot more oompfy :)

All the stars now a days wear wigs or extensions. Jessica Simpson is well known for wearing hair extensions to add volume and length to her hair. She is wearing them in the picture you supplied. She actually makes a line of hair extensions with her hair stylist. You can get them at this web site http://www.hairextensions.com/

They vary in price and quality.
