Fill up your plate once and don't heap it. Eat a little bit of everything first, then eat your favorite stuff. When you finish that one plate full, sit back and talk to everyone. When you get up for seconds (yeah, I know you will), get a second of your favorite thing and nothing else.
Be sure to snack on celery sticks (unstuffed they are a negative calorie food) and carrots.
Get out of the kitchen as much as possible. Instead of putting the food away (which encourages one last snack), wash the dishes. Hard to snack when you have dishwasher on your hands.

Ok well if you going to hoildays parties have a well balanced meal before you go. Use a smaller plate to keep your portions in control. Also alcohol consumption makes up a lot of weight gain during the holidays - not just food. Make yourself a designated driver.

Don't deprive yourself, but remember that portion control is key. When you're choosing what to eat, fill your plate half with salad, 1/4 with the main dish (potatoes, rice, ect), and the rest with what you want. When you're eating dessert try the 3-Bite rule. You can have cake, just as long as you have 3 bites. Also, exercise at least 20 minutes.

Presents are not fattening....just do not eat the junk. Even if you gain a pound it will fall off after the first. Consider giving up weight obsession for your New Year's Resolution!
