I have a serious problem with 'trophy' hunting. There is no good reason to kill an animal just so you can hang it's head on a wall, or it's hide on the floor. I am a strong advocate of gun ownership, and I am an NRA member. I understand that some animal populations need to be controlled, and that some people actually hunt for food(although there is plenty of food at the store), but canned hunts are a terrible thing. It doesn't make you a man to kill an animal that is in a confined area, or chained to a tree.
I think that trophy hunters, and canned hunters should be rounded up and hunted themselves. There is no animal on Earth who's population should be controlled as the human animal.
I say we should let murderers, rapists, child molesters, and drug dealers out of prisons, and hunt them down like animals. Now that would be a canned hunt I can agree with.
Now, I have a friend named Bob, he's a Vietnam vet, and this is true. During hunting season, he dresses like Tarzan, and hunts with a knife. He's a bit of a nut, but at least he hunts like a real predator does. Animal vs. Animal.

Hunting is a long held tradition in my family so its just natural for me to hunt. Now i do undertand some of the beliefs of non - hunters and some are quite vaild. Some are alittle out there too. But thats just like anybodies view some are popular and some aren't.
Now I don't call hunting a sport as I see nothing sporting of it. Althought it can be considered possibly a recreational sport in the fact that its relaxing to be in the outdoors enjoying the outdoors. Its important not to get hung up on the word "sport" As its only describing an activity. Hunting is more than that. It is a way for people to connect to nature in which they have usually lost since living in the city. Hunters are the best conservationists as they are better connected to the land.
Now its normal or I feel fine hunting and taking an animal as I do it quickly and clean so that the animal does not suffer. I also have the policy if you kill it you eat it. ALthough with pest management that cannot be done such as deer mice (hanti virus) and so on. But in most cases I eat what I shoot when I can.
Hunting is a good tool for managenment as well as urban sprawl is an issue as it goes into wildlife terrietory and then you ahve deer or coyotes in suburbia and through management via hunting this can be controlled for the safety of the public.
Hunting is great way to be connected to the land, a great management tool, and is a good way to spend an afternnoon and supper.

I was never into it at first. Not against per se' , but not for it either. But then I met someone who got me really interested in deer hunting, sometimes quail or squirrel hunting. We had a good time together, and he taught me quite a lot about the outdoors, nature, and the enviroment.
The one thing that he hammered (and I do mean HAMMERED) into my head was, if you don't intend to eat it don't you dare shoot it. The only exception to this rule of course was if it were some sort of wild animal (ie: mountain lion or bear) that was starting to attack either one of us and we had to shoot it for safety (you know so we didn't die!). And of course obviously we would never provoke those types (or any other types) of animals either. I respect that there are those who are avidly against hunting no matter what the situation or reason, but I think there are times when it is okay, like if we are going to eat it. We shot a deer, and we went and took it to the butcher and had it made into all kinds of stuff roasts and steaks and I cannot remember it all. Venison is a wonderful meat.
Now as for "canned" hunts, I have never participated in one of those and I don't know that I could condone them. But I won't go there because I do not have the information about them and it wouldn't be right to make a judgement on something I do not have the information on.
So I stick with the policy I won't shoot/hunt it unless I/we are going to eat it, or I/we are in very real danger and there is no other way out.

Personally I think hunting is just an age old way to release steam that has been passed down from generation to generation since the invetion of projectile objects (i.e. Arrows). I have recently shot a gun for the first time and enjoyed it far more than I thought, which leads me to understand how someone can release tension just by capping off a few rounds/clips. I do not really care for hunting animals, as they are usually running away and dont fight back. There is less challenge in that. If it is to lower an animal population run amok then, carefully monitored hunting is plausible (but it never really is monitored is it?). Many hunters do however eat what they kill and use the remaining carcass for Taxidermy which would eliminate the wastefullness many people seem to think goes along with hunting. Humans are wasteful and we will always do things just for our own pleasure or survival. Eating or a pretty cool statue. I for one, would rather play paintball versus another human being (or 100 of them) and see what tactics I must devise to win.
BTW, Dick Cheney is an *** for hunting caged animals and then shooting his "buddy" in the face. Hunting caged animals I am totally against and someone like him should have his testicles removed for not being a real man.

I respect the fact that you don't agree with it, but hunters do alot for the environment that most people don't think about. The population of birds in the panhandle of Texas would be rediculous if it wasn't for the hunters. Honorable hunters only shoot to their limit and cook what they kill. If there weren't hunters all of the birds would be left to a much worse death of starvation and overpopualation because humans are part of the food chain in the area. I enjoy hunting, not because I like to kill things, but because I enjoy doing anything outside, and the meat is good.

This question is asked at least once a week, but I live in Montana
and I love to hunt, but I was raised believing, if you kill it you eat it.
And we do live off the game we kill.
We right now have 2 deer and an elk cut and wrapped in the freezer, for our winter meat supply.
Just remember that we all live in different enviorments with different lifestyles. This is how you survive where I live.

Our ancestors killed animals for his or her pores and skin and their meat. that is how they survived, and for that reason...that's the way you and that i got here to be right here. Animals kill one yet another interior the wild each 2d of daily. you actually have the right to experience the way you do. you may pick now to not devour meat or positioned on animal products, and that i comprehend that. yet enable me ask you some questions, if i'd: Ever devour jello? (made with the help of boiling animal pores and skin, bones and hooves) Ever purchase a leather-depending handbag? Ever purchase Nike shoes? (leather-depending!) Ever use lotion or makeup that incorporates lanolin? (made from sheep pores and skin) Ever sleep on a down pillow? (feathers from slaughtered ducks and ducks) Ever taken a image? (all image videos use gelatin - see above) Ever feed your cat or canines popular cat or canines nutrition? (loaded with animal with the help of-products) products containing elements of slaughtered animals are deeply entrenched in our society. if you're judging others about killing animals, make confident you at the on the spot are not doing it your self.

I fell if you hunt just to kill and not use the meat it is wrong.
If you use the meat and obey by the laws of the land there nothing wrong with it .if it wasn't for hunters there would be no animals to hunt.

As long as there is food in the stores you commit a crime against nature to kill an animal for no other reason than to show your power over them. How neat would it be if the deer had a gun and could shoot back? I'll bet there would be fewer hunters out there. Or how about hunting a lion with a switch blade knife? When ever the odds get a little more even, people get a very skidish. How much threat can a racoon, rabbit or a bird be to our well being?

Back in the day it was done for survival until we got better at growing our own food. Then it became more of a sporting event or tradition for a father to pass down to his son's. Now it is done for a combination of reasons, eating, sporting and tradition. For eating I'm OK with, for sport or tradition I say no. My 2 cents
