I have a 5 year old Shih Tzu that has been showing signs of redness in his eyes and ears. They come and go in spurts. Both eyes appear to be red but not bothering him. As far as his ears, well they are normal, fleshy color, then later on they are dark pink. In a matter of minutes they can change. His ears also do appear to be a little warm.

I spoke to my vet and they said I can bring him in but it isn't that big of a deal. He most likely has allergies. I am trying benadryl (1/2 tablet), this is what my vet had me giving my other shih tzu for her allergies. I wanted to know if this is really a big concern and if I should have another vet look at him or if I should continue this. I just started today with the Benadryl. Is there any other medications that I can try out??? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks!!!

What you're describing could be a result of Thyroid problems or blood pressure changes. The "pinkness" of the extremities are a sign of blood flow and rapid changes indicate changes in blood flow to the affected area. Either thyroid or blood pressure should be checked by a vet as they can have other serious side effects.

Our neighbor's Shih Tzu, Russell, has the same problem with allergies. He took a 1/2 tab twice a day. We could not figure out the irritant. He went through a complete diet change, and ended up on homemade food. He had a really strict flea regiment too, in case that was the cause. Best of luck to you and yours. Merry Christmas!!

Try both boric acid answer dripped over the eyes (out of water, of path) for every week. If there is not any benefit, feed your RES strips of liver. That's a well supply of nutrition A. If that does not paintings, seek advice a vet who can inform one finish of a turtle from the opposite.

Maybe he is becoming a rabbit. Just kidding, I really dont think those reactions are normal, I think you should take him to the vet, maybe it's not just a simple allergy.
