I was just wondering what everyone thought because it seems to me if a child is potty trained that means they now use the potty and are completely off of diapers or pullups at anytime. If they wet the bed or have frequent accidents, then they aren't fully trained. What do you think?

My daughter is now 4. She was trained at exactly 2 1/2 completely during the day. She wet the bed at night for a month and never did again.

Some doctors say there is a coorelation between potty training and bedwetting. If you start to early they will become bedwetters.

Potty trained means they can control their bladder when they are awake. Night time is a whole different story. Kid's bladders develope at different rates and some people sleep more soundly. Think about it. You are trained to drive a car or do your job but you still can't do it asleep. Be low key about kids who can't stay dry at night. It will come in time and faster without labels or pressure.

It is hard to say...
If the child is wetting the bed at night because they are just not waking up to go to the bathroom then I don't think they are fully potty trained.
If the child is older and as a bladder problem and they cannot help that they wet the bed then I do feel they are fully potty trained.
Most of the time children who wet the bed at night are just not fully potty trained. They need to be woken up a few times a night and made to go to the bathroom. They also should have to strip their own sheets and help wash and make the bed. No drinks after dinner either.

I don't think wearing diapers or pullups at night should be considered being potty trained. I would say it's normal for kids to pee the bed occasionally, but not frequently. If they are still having accidents frequently during the day as well, I would say they are not fully potty trained.

I don't agree with you. Here's why, I had a bladder problem up to age 10. I had accidents but was, definitely, potty trained...I also wet the bed back then. Also, I have a 49 year old husband and HE still wets the bed once in a while...depends on what he drank before bed and what he's dreaming about. Anyway, get the picture?

Wetting the bed at night is different than being potty trained. My husband had a problem until he was 17. So yes, you're toddler can be potty trained and still wet the bed at night.

Some kids have problems at night. If they are okay when they are awake, I would say that they are potty trained. There's a difference between wetting the bed and not being potty trained.

I would say that COMPLETELY potty trained is underwear at all times. Even at night. If she still wets the bed at this age, you might want to limit the amount she drinks so close to bed time. One of mine had occasional accidents until she was 6 and I FINALLY pinpointed it to drinking tea. Whenever she drank tea at any time during the day, she'd wet the bed that same night. I have forbidden her to drink tea and it's been smooth sailing ever since!
Good luck!!

No, there is no relation for some kids. If the child is dry during the day and not at night, then they have genetic conditions that make staying dry at night impossible until they are about 12. full trained if they always go when they're awake. when they're asleep, they're hardly responsible.
pullups are humane. any parent who has ever scolded a child for 'wetting the bed' should apologize, explain they've learned it's a genetic condition, and move on.

If they stay dry during the day, yes they are potty trained. It can take years to be dry at night.
