because it contradicts the bible in so many places.
This is why there is actually a large group of people that want creationism taught in school even though there is NO scientific evidence to support it and MOUNTAINS of evidence suporting the fact that we evolved from primates.

You would have to provide documented evidence that the Church (not Catholic church) opposed or didn't accept the discovery of the lightning rod or vacuums, As far as stem cell research, infantile stem cells have provided nothing in the way of cures for anything, it is all hypothetical. Adult stem cell research has brought some advancements, seems to me we ought to go with what works. Evolution is not science, never has been, never will be. It can not be duplicated, is not repeatable, cannot be falsified nor observed. It is a belief system and a world view. Much of what is considered real science was started by Christians.
Scientific Accuracies in the Bible
1. The spherical shape of the earth (Isaiah 40:22).
2. The earth is suspended in nothing (Job. 26:7).
3. The stars are innumerable (Gen. 15:5).
4. The existence of valleys in the seas (2 Sam. 22:16).
5. The existence of springs and fountains in the sea (Gen. 7:11; 8:2; Prov. 8:28).
6. The existence of water paths (ocean currents) in the seas (Psalm 8:8).
7. The water cycle (Job. 26:8; 36:27-28; 37:16; 38:25-27; Ps. 135:7; Ecc. 1:6-7).
8. The fact that all living things reproduce after their own kind (Gen. 1:21; 6:19).
9. The nature of health, sanitation, and sickness (Gen. 17:9-14; Lev. 12-14).
10. The concept of entropy, that energy is running down (Psalm 102:26).

lightening rods? vaccuums? that's silly. Any christian that is agains vaccuums and lightening rods needs to relax. The Bible talks about the world implying it is round. Words used to describe volumn or spherical shape I believe are in the original texts.
Stem cell research, no. EMBRYONIC stem cell research yes. In the Ukraine, new born full term babies are being kidnapped and having their stem cells removed. They found a mass grave of 30 babies recently over there behind a medical clinic where the nurse practitioners would take the dead babies. It's an aweful thing and that's why we oppose it.
Evolution? The evidence for evolution is bankrupt and dishonest. Not exactly scientific to reject answers that don't go along with a preconcieved bias like they do with dating numbers. How about the fact that mutation and natural selection never increases information and it just scrambles up pre-existing information. Logical reasons to doubt it's truth.

Don't accuse all Christians. For every discovery there were nay-sayers, and many of the discoverers were Christians. The same groups have not opposed each of your examples and the reasons were varied. There are irrational fanatics and principled theologians in the mix.

That's not a legitimate or fair question.
Christians do not fight science at every turn. Science does not threaten Christians. By posing this question, you make false assumptions and assume that Christians are mindless, intellectually irrational people, which they are not. There may be some who don't think as rationally as others, but this gross generalization is unfair and simply, MEAN.
Why don't you engage in some dialogues with some Christian scientists before you make such a comment next time?

There are loopholes as with anything else, it cannot be fully explained in theory... but if you read and spend enough time reading and researching biblical Theology you might understand a bit more than you do now and yet it does take but a small leap of faith to realize that all of this has not been done by happenstance or by people but must have been done by a supreme being... and once studying how long the bible has been about and why it is the oldest book still about and certain truths that have been predicted (that have already happened) it is not that difficult to have faith...but being that everything is not fully explained and that in the bible it says one must have faith and not of themselves.. but by the grace of God be saved... lest any man should boast ... pretty much says that it's not about you... its about him and therefore explained or not explained you'll not get it so you must just believe and he gives us plenty of information to lead us to believe in him but he says no-one not even Jesus himself knows when the end times will be.... so he does not give all the answers and why should he...

The worst are the ones who adopt a bit of science, then twist it to make their claims look legitimate. Most famous examples: Ken Hovind and Ron Wyatt.

Gosh, I've never fought science..
As a sometimes student of science, I don't believe the latest scientific finding, nor much of the long-standing beliefs.
Certainly, evolution is a long stretch in many places -- for instance, no one mentioned an asteroid when I was a kid in school, and now it's an accepted fact! Were we wrong back then, or are we wrong now, or both??
I also don't buy most of the dogma of "global warming" for any number of scientific reasons.
Finally, I think that science has as much "Belief" in evolution as fundamentalists do in creationism. For both camps, if their theories on how life began prove to be untrue, then their entire world (theology, scientific model, etc) will have no foundation, and will begin to crumble.

I really wish I had that answer, but you are right. There is so much evidence of science. I do believe there is a god, a higher power... and I think it is a great energy source and since everything emits energy I believe they all complement each other.

Because God says this about that...
1 Timothy 6:20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:
Psalms 118:8 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.

B/C we're commanded to believe in God's word, which science doesn't generally support.
