if not, then why do so many Bible-readers say they will go straight to heaven when they die? and they keep on advising other people to read the Bible so that they will be saved too. is reading the Bible the way to heaven?

not meaning to offend, but this seems to be the implication i'm getting. am i correct?

but if i'm mistaken, it's fine with me if i stand corrected.

Yes, a lot of the believers seem to naively believe if you'll only read the bible you'll be so blown away by its awesomeness that you can't help but believe.

Reality: The bible is full of places the majority of us have never set foot in. Took place in times with completely different cultures and has a lot of references that the ordinary person can't comprehend.

Example: Matthew 25:28
" 'Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents.

To most of us, a talent is a skill like singing or dancing, not the weight of a bit of precious metal.

Reality: Plenty of people do read and study the bible, and still don't believe in its divinity.

I suspect a lot of them that are saying 'read the bible and you, too, will believe it' aren't even relying on their own reading of the book, but are going by what someone else told them it said.

it alone will not secure your place in heaven.
I rarely read it, rarely go to church, but believe i will go to heaven. I have seen many people who read the bible who are horrible people and may not make it heaven. A "godly" man at my mothers church who was very involved in church activities and read the bible all the time is in prison for having sex with his daughter. it is a sick world and that alone will not get you there. I believe you need to be a good person overall and know who he is and what he has done and live a caring life and you will be fine

First of all, who ever gave you the assumption of that? Wherever did you get that?! NO-where did I ever heard of ANY-one saying you had to be saved through reading the Bible. Common sense would tell you that... I sure would LOVE to know your *obervations*..... But anway to answer your questions: NO, just 'reading' the Bible would not get you to Heaven (unless, of course you follow it's directions on how to get to Heaven, which would be accepting Jesus Christ's sacrifice for your life to save you from your sins.)

Understanding that you have sinned, and repenting (turning away) from those sins, and placing your faith in Jesus Christ is what will secure your place in Heaven. Not good deeds -- there is nothing you can do other than repent and have faith in Jesus that will get you to Heaven. You should read the Bible, however, because it is God's Word. If you read the Bible, you will find the answers you are looking for.

LOL. Reading the Bible won't get you anywhere, just as reading a book on parenting won't make you a good parent. The Bible, however, tells what you DO have to do to get a place in heaven, so STUDYING it and then FOLLOWING what it says may be a better plan.

The information about securing your place in heaven is contained in the bible.

That is - believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved. (Acts 16:31)

You wouldn't want to join up with something without knowing about it would you? The way to know God is to read His Word, the bible.

No reading the Bible alone will not insure your place in Heaven. If you do not believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, live like the devil and never repent or change, you are reserved a place in Hell. Even the Devil knows scripture.....Matthew Chapter4.

If they believe it,. it is their right. However, one must really make up one's own mind about what is really important. To me, reading withpout contributory action is meaningless. To live a contributory life, one where you do good for yourself and others secures your place in heaven. To leave the planet better than you found it by contribution in various ways: time, money, effort, caring..positive action is the key.

You go to Heaven by accepting Christ into your heart and walking in His way. Reading the bible is to instruct you on how to live.
