This isn't scientific or anything but... I've found that people's shoe size is usually pretty close to their "wedding" ring finger size.... I wear size 12 shoes, my ring's a size 12. My wife (who passed away this year) wore size 5 1/2 shoes, her ring size was 5 1/2. I've asked a few people and for the most part, they've had the same results... now, if it's not the "ring" finger, I don't have a clue :-) I dunno... lay out a bunch of carrots (or something) to snack on when you're together. Find one that's pretty close to the same size as which ever finger you're buying for and take that to the jeweler. You won't be showing that jeweler anything they haven't seen before. They're used to people bringing all kinds of stuff in to find the size of a "surprise ring".

your probs best to go to a cheap shop and buy a ring that fits than go look up a ring chart on the internet and figure out which size that person is :) i think you have to measure the width of the ring and somehow the chart determines what size the person's finger is :)

You can always find a ring that this person is not wearing and take it with you to get a ring size or put the ring on your finger remember how it fit and then have your finger sized.

If you get it fitted after it would be fine, or you could wear a ring and say "I think this looks good on you, wanna try it?" and guestimate it from there ( the shoe/ring size thing is BS - my shoe size is 11 and my ring size is 8!)

Ask her in joking way, if she think your hand is bigger than yours and of course she is going to say no, then have her put her hand up to yours. Tell her that your fingers are thicker than hers and ask her how thick (meaning the size of her finger) - do she think hers is and make up some off the wall number for your own to distract her. And from there you'll know something about her size.
It's all about tricking her into having the conversation

measure their ring size while they sleep! or get a ball of clay, jam it over their finger, pull it off slowly then run away laughing... lol it's hard to say
