Reva P: I'd be interested in hearing your take on Paganism or Wicca as they both stress personal responsibility.

The problem with any religion in general is the act of forcing others how to believe, by brainwashing, ridicule, and general childishness. Church and state should be kept separate; the last time they were together, men, women and children were burnt at the stake. I do not trust the government anyway, and if an organized religion infamous for hypocrisy, bloodshed, and judgementalism were to take over the government, we'd all be in serious trouble.

It's not just christianity and it's not just in America. The biggest problem with religion in general is that it teaches you that no matter how evil you are in this life, confessing (Catholicism) or accepting your version of a supreme being into your life erases everything negative thing that have done and everything negative thing that you might do. Religion, in other words, is a way to avoid even the concept of personal responsibility.

Religion, particularly fundamentalism and evangelicalism (a sub-type of fundamentalism) is the link between global warming, the development and spread of weapons of mass destruction, the spread of AIDS, genocide, and every other problem facing this planet.

The coincidence here is that I was considering, earlier today (I was on a bus at the time) posting a variation of your question. I just hadn't had the time to do so. Thanks, then, for covering my figurative backside.

As far as from what I've learned it is judging other people for the sin that they've commited. Most people have an understanding of right and wrong from their up-bringing if they were brought up knowing consequences for actions. But it is those moral Christians that think they are better and have the ability to judge other people just because they have dubbed themselves Christian that makes other people think Christianity is a bunch of moral and judgmental, arrogant (better than anyone else) kind of people that really make me in fact angry (which is also a sin) regardless of if my heart is in the right place or not. But--- must remember that we all sin differently and I'm no more right. It's just that moral christians who think they are better (less sinfull) irritate me because they are the ones keeping others from coming to Christ....

The fighting among different Christian groups - some groups attacking others, telling people they will go to hell, writing anti-other-religion pamphlets, picketing other churches with rude posters and yelling... yet claiming to be Christians themselves all the while.

There is no problem different for Christianity in America as there is for anywhere else. To put faith in something that does not cooperate defies logic. Americans, as well as many other parts of the world, have science that can explain the natural world around us and we don't need miracles and dogma. Not all can be explained of course, but it took over a million years before Copernicus discovered that we were not the center of the universe.

Christianity in America has 4 major problems.

1) Bigotry

2) Prejudice

3) Hypocrisy

4) Hate

Get rid of those problems by weeding out the people who promote these problems in the guise/name of Christianity...then maybe there's still a chance for most people to live in peace regardless of race, color or creed.

Honest answer to your question.

Peace.

Christians. The message is fine, but some of the people are real jerks. No on second thought, most of them are jerks.
