Ignore whatever is going on in the picture and tell me what is the first impression you get when you see someone do that.,

Arms crossed with hands on chest. I am looking for religious or other meanings..

Two things right off. The first is a, I'm sorry nothing against the little girl, but a dead person pose.

The other is the trust fall position, you know like when you fall backwards into someone elses arms the "catcher" doesn't want you flailing about and hitting them on accident, so they have you cross your arms.

Just my thoughts.

See, now I would thing that may symbolize death (the way you place the hands when burying a body), but perhaps it could also symbolize birth or being in the womb (fetal position).

That's just first impression as I don't know what kind of ceremony that is.

well, to me it says she is holding something dear to her heart. We held the American flag like that in burial ceremonies before we gave it to the next of kin with a small speech.

My first impression....she looks as if she should be in a coffin. I have no clue as to any symbolism. You asked.
