The Catholic Church does not take the stories of creation and the flood in the Bible literally. Catholics believe the book of Genesis tells religious truth and not necessarily historical fact.

The religious truth is that God created everything and declared all was good.

The Church supports science in the discovery of God's creation. At this time, the theory of evolution is the most logical scientific explanation. However tomorrow someone may come up with a better idea.

As long as we believe that God started the whole thing, both the Bible and modern science can live in harmony.

With love in Christ.

Personally, I would recommend getting at the root cause of the things you said you have a problem with. If you accept the more difficult teachings such as the real presence, then you should be able to trust the Church to be correct about the things you mentioned. What you may have objections to is specific interpretation, which may or may not be binding, or even what the Church really teaches. EWTN can often be a wealth of information and learning about these kinds of things. Also, the Catechism of the Catholic Church is a great source and official too.

If you're a Catholic, then you're obliged to accept the truth of the above, even if you don't yet fully appreciate them.

Keep practicing the faith and everything will work out just fine.

Thats how I am but I'm sure of my contextual interpretations of the Creation story, Noah's ark, etc. The Bible is like a giant symbol and full of parables and all that fun stuff. You can think that if you want but hey do whatever you want.

YES YES YES

many people don't understand this. If every Catholic was asked every question about what they think or agree with in the bible, there would be so much difference it wouldn't be funny.

Some of us will die with feeling no belief in areas in the bible but this is based on our experiences in life and study etc. God understands this.

One of them Pope guys said something about Genesis being metaphor. Or at least agreeing with science a bit.

Sure. I know plenty of Catholics like that. It seems like Christianity is getting liberal itself.

I would say so because Catholics don't believe a lot of stuff that is in the Bible.

The two should not even be worded next to each other. Esp. where abortion is concerned. Can't be a liberal Catholic! Period!

I doubt it. You have to follow the party line.

To do what you want to, essentially, makes you a protestant.
