I have a long time ago, but have since avoided lying as much as possible.

Yes, big fat lies.
Two things happen: either you stick to the lie so much, that it becomes a part of yourself, your personality and eventually a way of life (as in my case!).
Two, you stick to the lie, but inwards, it jars, it doesnt gel with you you really are, and it simmers until pent up frustration over keeping up pretences bursts and the truth comes out and you mess up really badly. (which is what I think will eventually happen in my case!)

If stretching the truth in order to tell a good story is a lie, then yes, I must confess I have done that. But, like you, I try not to lie. And that's the honest truth!
