I have read in a pamphlet given to me at school that 1 joint contains enough harmful materials as 12 cigarettes. Thus the chance of getting lung cancer is higher. Is this true? I have read numerous Q & A's on this site that say otherwise.

Asking that questions is analogous to asking, "is it better to have cancer or a heart attack?" DUH! You DON'T DO EITHER ONE!

Life is short - don't make it any shorter. Wake the hell up! Go find some one to help, someone in need, volunteer your time - you obviously have way to much of it.

The leading researcher on marijuana and lung cancer is Dr. Donald Tashkin of UCLA. His latest research shows that marijuana smokers actually have lower rates of lung cancer than average.

The believed reason for this is that marijuana contains many of the same things that tobacco does -- they are both just burning vegetable matter -- but that the THC in marijuana is known to have anti-tumor effects. That is, marijuana may cause pre-cancerous changes similar to tobacco, but the active ingredient in marijuana kills off the cells before they become cancer.

In terms of overall health, the biggest study to date was done by Kaiser Permanente. They surveyed 65,000 patients over several years. They found no significant differences in the health records of marijuana smokers versus those who didn't smoke marijuana. One of the explanations may be that most people just don't smoke that much marijuana. Where tobacco users may be puffing all the time, the typical marijuana smoker may consume one or two joints per day, or less.

You can find a ton of information on the subject, including the largest studies ever done by the governments of several countries at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer Every major study of the subject has concluded that tobacco is a bigger threat to health than marijuana.

One good example of such a report is the most recent report by the World Health Organization - A Comparative Appraisal of the Health and Psychological Consequences of Alcohol, Cannabis, Nicotine and Opiate Use -WHO Project on Health Implications of Cannabis Use. You can find it at http://www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/hemp/general/who-index.htm

In short, they found the same thing as every other major study -- both tobacco and alcohol are more dangerous than cannabis in every respect. When the report was published, however, it didn't fit well with US Government ideas so the publication was suppressed and it had to be brought to the world by people on the Internet.

The moral of the story is that you should not believe what the US Government, or its supporters, say because the US Government has had an official and openly stated policy of lying about the subject since at least 1930.

Yes, it's very true. A lot of people would argue with that, but what you read is the truth. Smoking 1 joint will slow your responses down and if you drive that can be dangerous. THC is an ingredient in Marijuana and it's kind of a sticky substance. That will get into the Cilia (small hairs at the bottom of your lungs) and get those very gummed up and slowly will impair your breathing. It doesn't happen overnight, but it does happen over time. I've done research and also have watched my brothers smoke it for most of their lives. My oldest brother is dead now and he was addicted to cocaine before he died. He didn't die from that, but I know that if he lived he eventually would have. I smoked it for 18 years and my last joint was over 20 years ago and I feel great!

Please believe me, it's not worth getting into. No drug is worth it.

There will be people on this site that will tell you the exact opposite, but go with your instincts on this. If your instincts say, don't do it, then don't it. Besides it is illegal and Marijuana and cigarettes are equally dangerous.

In some cases, most likely yes. But it has been said that the addiction to cigs is one of the strongest if not the strongest that one can be slaves too. Perhaps its because an addicted smoker builds up that addiction for years, rather than a short stint with marijuana or any of the other junks.

A possible comparison, is in building muscle tissue of high quality, if one pumps up with heavy weights with fast reps, and speeds up the process of strength gain , the quality of muscle tissue could be of lesser nature. While a gymnast takes more time in building quality strength within the confines of his body weight etc. this could be why weight lifters loose their muscle tone faster than a gymnast. Just a comparison , I have no reference to it.

YES. YES YES.
It is true because Marijuana smokers hold the smoke in their lungs for much longer than cigarette smokers. Therefore the damage is much more severe. This is a proven fact.

It has been said that marijuana helps alleviate the nausea people who are undergoing chemotherapy for cancer often suffer and for this reason only some doctors try to have marijuana available by prescription.

Yes and No. It is true that 1 joint equals 12 cigs. That's only cause there is no filter on them. No there are really no harmful substance in the marijuana that will hurt you. Pot will not cause lung cancer, there was never a case of it. If were to ask me what would be better to smoke, I would tell you to go for the pot.

Nope, other way around. Think about it. Marijuana is just grass. Next time you see a pack of smokes, ask to take a look at the chemicals being put into cigarettes. MUCH worse than just grass. However, I should point out that all forms of smoking is bad, mmmmokay.

Marijuana damages DNA at least as much as tobacco and may have a link to lung cancer, according to a study of mothers and their new born infants.
Researchers in America have found that blood from marijauna smokers has nearly three times as many DNA mutations as that of non-smokers.

Marijauna smoke contains many of the carcinogenic chemicals found in cigarette smoke, but, unlike tobacco, has never been linked to the kinds of genetic mutations associated with lung cancer.

But Dr Marinel Ammenheuser and her colleagues at the University of Texas Medical Branch now have evidence that marijauna smoking causes the same kind of damage to DNA as tobacco.

i would say Yes, but i havent researched enough to justifly my answer. all I know , is they are both harmful to the body as we introduce unnecesary toxic chemical but they are both addicting, i think cigarettes are physically addicting while marijuana is psychologically addictive, as the user get addicted to the feeling of numbness and euphoria from using it. there are lots of studies done on it..and try to compare the studies done by a user and non-user.

No pure hydroponic good quality weed with no seeds smoked out of a GLASS BONG is not worse than cigs. I did this project in High School where i compared monoxide smoke and tar from both. The weed as barely any. The cig had a full line of resedue and nasty tar. I used vasoline at the bottom of a plasic bottle to collect the tar and a pump to suck in the CIG and Weed both in seperate bottles of course.

no, it's actually more natural. Cigarettes contain more crap like nail polish remover, rat poison, ammonia, bleach, paint thinner, and the filters don't disintegrate and is worse for the environment. So just don't do drugs!!!!
