My cresteds have not successfully mated. My female is 6 lbs. and the male is 9. Is he maybe too big for her? She has been through 5 heat cycles now with no pups. I'm getting really upset. I've never tried to mate dogs before. Any suggestions?

Please HELP

To those of you questioning my motives: I have these dogs mainly because I have a son with strong allergies and asthma. I know a few other families who really want these dogs too. Even the puffs have less hair and no dander than other breeds. This was really the only route I could to to have a dog for my kids. I can't imagine not having them. I have two elderly neighbors who have been begging me for my girl (she's a puff). If I already have homes for these I don't see what the issue is.

He may be too big for her. If you really want puppies, try taking them to the vet and having them Artificially Inseminated. I did that will my French Bulldogs and it worked great. She had 4 healthy little babies!

Fix your dogs NOW. Yes, the male is too large for the female. If you didn't already know this, shame on you. A pregnancy could kill your female and all resulting puppies.

You shouldn't be upset. You should be glad that your female has not died and that you haven't brought more poorly bred dogs into this world.

If you want to learn how to breed, contact the Chinese Crested club for your country. Talk to them about how to become a good breeder. Yahoo! Answers should not be a source of information for a breeder, and ANY breeder should know about size problems.

If your dogs are not champion show dogs and you haven't had them certified by the various organizations recommended by your breed club (like CERF and OFA), then they should not be bred. Period. Anything else is irresponsible, unethical, and immoral.

Edit: Then your friends should be buying dogs from a reputable breeder. You should NOT be breeding your dogs for your 'reasons'. This is called being a Backyard Breeder and are one of the huge reasons for the high kill-rate in shelters. Don't be one of these immoral people. "Having Homes" for them is not the only issue. How bout taking 15 minutes to learn about the issues? If you didn't even know about the size complications, how do you figure you are experienced enough to breed? Sigh. Byb central.

SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR DOGS NOW. DO NOT ADD TO THE BACKYARD BREEDERS, BREEDING THEIR UN-HEALTHY, UN-WORTHY DOGS FOR NOTHING BUT MONEY!

Why do you want to breed?
Have they been tested for any and ALL hereditary health problems?
Are they registered with the chinese crested club?
Have you been showing your dogs?
Are they of breeding type and quality?
Is she over the age of 2 years old?
How many titles have your dogs got?
WHY do you think they should have puppies?
What are so good about your dogs?
Are they from excellent bloodlines?
Have both your dogs been vet checked to proove they are healthy?
Are you able to invest THOUSANDS of dollars in being a good breeder without making a profit?
Do you have a true love for the CC dog?
Are you breeding for the love of the breed and to improve the breed?
Are you able to pay over $1000 for an emergency c-section and be prepared to lose your b*tch and her pups?
Will you be able to take any puppis back throughout their lifetime if the owner can not for any reason, care for the dog any longer?

If you answer NO to ANY of these questions; you should NOT be breeding! Obviously you have NO CLUE what to do so DON'T BREED! You dogs will live longer, happier lives if you just spay and neuter them now.

Yes. STOP NOW. Get your dogs spayed and neutered. You're clueless as to what to do and there are way too many unwanted dogs out there already anyway.

Don't do it if you don't know what you are doing. There are plenty of homeless animals already.
