Can you play football and run cross country at the same time? I think they're both fall sports. You might want to consider spring lacrosse instead.

Hey, good luck. Your chances are as good as anyone elses.

You might want to also consider volunteering your time to help the senator's campaign.

I just got accepted to West Point, and the really important things are to (1) have a really strong academic record throughout high school so that you can get an "loa" (letter of assurance - which basically means that if you fulfill the other qualifications, the school is reserving you a spot in your class); (2) Be athletically involved and whatnot (you seem fine in that department - keep it up!); and (3) Be involved in the community (I volunteer at my local volunteer ambulance corps). Show leadership by running for class office or heading up an NHS group.

The thing I've found out while I've gone through this process is that if you demonstrate excellence in all of these areas and the school wants you, you don't have to worry so much about the nomination. You still have to apply and go through the stress of the interview process, but it isn't such a big deal as finishing everything else.

Get started as early as possible, during spring of junior year. If you can make it, go to the "summer leaders seminar" program that West Point holds every year to show possible applicants what it means to go to West Point (apply early for this too, because getting a spot is competitive).

Good luck to you! Just make sure you keep up the hard work in high school because that is where it really counts (set yourself up now - academically and athletically and leadership-wise - and it won't be such a hard adjustment when you get into high school).

Work your butt off in High School and I don't see any reason why you shouldn't get in. I think it is awesome that you are setting your goals high and are willing to serve your country. But don't put all your apples in one barrel, my brother has wanted to go to the Naval Academy forever, he's got the grades, the sports, the honors, and everything... only he is too tall. You never hnow what may come in the future, but work hard, and you will go far in life whether you go to the Military Academy or Stanford, etc.

I think you have an excellent chance. But don't forget that being a teenager is also an important part of the human equation. Just don't screw up what you have accomplished.

Young Man, I wish you the very best of luck! Set your sights high and you will achieve them. I wish to GOD the USA had more like you instead of some of the Brain Donors you see writing dopey things on Yahoo Answers.

Being in 7th grade is a VERY poor excuse. Learn to spell or stay the hell out of my Army.

All of that doesn't matter a bit. It's who your family is and if they have money or not that matters. By the way, it has to be old money.
